Time is defined as entropy increasing! Whether its discrete or continuous no one knows. Its just a measure of change

Yes, we could have a philosophical debate about whether anything actually exists. But just say we assume that all the stuff around us exists (like this computer you are reading this text on) then the existence of time is irrefutable. Otherwise your machine wouldn't work, because all of the science that made it work is based around time. It's not magic, it's science, that we made, in time, with time, using time.

It's not magic!


I know this was posted a while ago but can you elaborate on how computers are made to work based on time? From my limited understanding computers work based off mathematics, and isn't time just more mathematics at work

Time is both subjective and objective. As dude stated it is a dimension of its own and can speed up or slow down depending on velocity and the strength of a gravitational field. this is the basis of einsteins general relativity.
As far as your question goes, Im not sure, but cause and effect are time dependent

The question "Does time exist?" seems to suggest there could be a scientific answer that could be useful. Einstein already gave a very deep answer that is used to make the GPS system work between satellites and phones, namely that time changes in rate at very high speeds; as well as linking time & space. It does not seem to address the question of its existence, but this answer is already so deep, I don't think we fully understand it in everyday life. So even if we could answer the question scientifically I don't know what difference it could make.

On the other hand there are other ways to look at the enigma of time. The eternal now paradox is of course familiar, to many interested in the matter. Below is another possibility.

A more esoteric meaning might be that time
provides a very important limit on human life;
a limit that could bring one to feel the preciousness
of life and understand that every moment is important.

Thus it behooves us to be kind every chance we have
as every time we interact with someone it could be
our last time, or theirs, anything can happen, but one thing
is certain, the moment will never repeat exactly the same way.
Thus some might say that both time and death are (a necessary) gift to help us wake up,
as us humans often tend to procrastinate, be distracted, & forgetful.

It seems like u are implying that time is a gift from god lol. It can provide purpose and incentive, but that is a by product of our own minds. It is possible past, present, and future exist simultaneously but can be proven. I like to think Im already dead. My brain just processes information too slowly at 60 frames per sec. either way time has an arrow. there are even theories that an anti universe exists where time flows in the opposite direction

As I understand it time is tightly related to gravity, and those who work with Quantum Physics have a nice formula which shows how time runs more quickly as gravity decreases (i.e. faster half way to the moon than on the planet surface and even slower in the sun).

I have never noticed time change that way but I have noticed time passing, and I am pretty sure that, if I were not here to notice time passing, it would still pass as it has been doing for at least the last 4 and a half billion years.


Time exists as much as gravity exists as much as electromagnetic fields exist.

Yes it sounds that way. It sounds like 'God' is being used. But consider if we talk about how the world looks, we will use terms like shape, color, perspective, etc. and these terms give meaning to how we construct cities and give meaning to and experience our world.
That atoms are 90 something percent space and there are no solid objects and electrons have no color does not figure in our experience. So we use very approximate terms like shape, color, perspective, etc. which are only meaningful at the limited level of our crude senses.

Like wise with time what we DO experience and what gives meaning (according to the view,  i suggested might be useful) is that fact that it imposes limits. Absolutely unavoidable limits - the most stark of which is death (which is not dependent on 'god' or a mental concept)

But I do get that this point (which is not original by the way) is unpopular, especially here, on this board. (some other examples, touching on this view, off the top of my head include: Buddhism, Carlos Castaneda, the iChing, & NLP).

So folks prefer nebulous philosophies, speculation, & the hope that science will give a satisfying 'objective' answer. And that's just the way it is here and now. And that seems  fine, as it passes the time with conversation.

Nope at a human level, but yes at a galactic level. I wrote a long blog post about it.

Time perception as we know it exists only in the human mind... something our ego perceives and we learned to build a society based in time... but it does not exist and the perception of time can be easily play with.

We know that well here, it just takes :mushroom2: to collapse the so-called order-of-time...

Even without a psychedelic the perception of time differs.. so it is definitely not a thing.

However, time exist as it happens simultaneously, and at a certain degree, the universe evolves... hasn't always been the time.

Meaning that time and gravity changed it... so our perception is wrong, but time is there.
