These have got to be Gyms amirite?

Sorry this is the only pic! I was positive on my ID a month and a half ago when I found them, now I am wondering if I should eat these dried puppies.

Cap orangish yellow, gills crowded and rusty brown from spores, had rings, taste was bitter, smelled strongly of cinnamon, anise, apricots.

No blue or green bruising that I could see. As you can see, the biggest cap is nearly as big as my face! Growing off dead but not pulpy hardwood, likely maple.

These are definitely not Gals right?

Dried they smell like gym socks and apricots.

Definitely look like Gyms to me, and the description sounds right.
Wait for a TI though.

I'd be shocked if they were anything but gyms. Although I hear they're much weaker when dried.

It is NOT Galerina,  I need to see the cap but I believe that you have a Gymnopilus species, pholiota is my other choice but without a spore print and pic of the cap I can't say for certain.

Likely active Gymns, unless found on the west coast, in which case the inactive Gymnopilus Ventricosus is a potential.

Thanks! I don't think they were Pholiota because the caps had no squamules and were not hygrophanous in any way, even though it was very wet outside and they were very fresh.

What would a Pholiota spore print look like?
