The Name of the Wind * 2
    #25587401 -

Has anyone read it?

I’ve been rereading through The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear this past week and I can’t put them down.
Although that may just be the mania come to think of it.

None the less, those of you who enjoy a well thought out book, especially fantasy, you should check it out.

Those of you who have read through the works, care to discuss it.
My wife isn’t quite done with A Wise Mans Fear and I’m acheing to burst from unhad conversations.

But ya, if you’re looking to read something, check it out, the audiobooks are both free on YouTube.
You have no excuse.

Picked up a copy a year+ ago;
made it 100 pages deep then got into a bad with my medication and narratives started swimming around me
been meaning to revisit it, he writes quite well

ended up getting it due to liking his appearances on Penny Arcade's Dungeons and Dragons runs

That’s excellent.

And fair enough, though when the time does come and you should pick it back up again, please do remember to bump this thread.
I’d very much like to know what you’ve thought of it.

I've read them, they are great. Isn't there supposed to be a highly-anticipated third book? That he keeps on pushing back the date of?

Ya, but it’s to be expected, same thing happened with the second book too.

Good authors take pride in their work and won’t release something until it’s ready.
Someone who isn’t an author could never understand quite how personal of an undertaking writing truly is.
I think it’s a horrible thing to rush another persons creativity.

An author should never be rushed.

the running jokes about him needing to complete the 3rd book were part of what made is Penny Arcade Dungeons and Dragons appearances so fun
that and Viari as the dashing red-headed rogue being such a fun character in general:lol:

The third book is likely already written,
Pat is probably just waiting until the TV series and movie are closer to being done to feed the hype train.

NOTW was a great start, lots of interesting ideas there. TWMF was great at times, a slog at others. Opened up more questions and answered very little from the first book. Denna seemed the more interesting character, but you don't get enough of her. TSROST was a throwaway. I hope that The Doors of Stone comes out soon, and that it's great, but I'm not expecting either.

He gets the flak he does because he said they were all written already when he released NOTW.

- What can readers expect from the two sequels and the trilogy that will follow this one?

"Well.... I've already written them. So you won't have to wait forever for them to come out. They'll be released on a regular schedule. One per year.

You can also expect the second book to be written with the same degree of care and detail as this first one. You know the sophomore slump? When a writer's second novel is weaker because they're suddenly forced to write under deadline? I don't have to worry about that because my next two novels are already good to go." -PR

Dude what? The Slow Regard of Silent Things was not a throw away, there is so much information in that book about the third book. And as for The Wise Mans Fear, it answers so many questions. Between the three books I feel like I could honestly give you a very accurate outline of exactly what’s going to happen in The Doors of Stone. If you’d be interested I’d love to discuss further in PMs so I can go into detail and give examples of what I mean.

And as for how long it’s taking Rothfuss to release The Doors of Stone; I’m a writer myself, so I have all the patience in the world for that sort of thing and find it irritating when people pressure authors to write faster. Writing is an art, and art takes time. That’s why when I write, I write for authors, not readers.
