Unfolding Nature Shop: Unfolding Nature: Being in the Implicate Order

Type writers
    #6421679 -

So my roommate gave me this sweet portable/manual type writer. A corsair smith corona - SCM. He said it had a new ribbon and was in working order. However, upon inspection, the ribbon has seemed to dry out.

After dampening it with a wet qtip i can get very faint letters if enough pressure is applied.

Im wondering if i can rehydrate the ribbon (perhaps by removing it and then soaking it in a cup of water, letting it dry, and reinstalling?)

Any other ideas short of finding a new ribbon.

I would suggest finding a new ribbon, otherwise things might just get messy. I always buy new ones when I run out...(I really am just responding to chime in that I LOVE manual typewriters, and love using mine.)

OMR - i knew it would be you that was the first to answer.

I already own 2 type writers but have neglected taking the time to find new ribbons for them. So, i seen this gift as a blessing which will certainly pull me from my creative slump of late. As such, ive donated my other 2 machines to a friends art project.

Hearing the keystrokes is just so exciting! Only the faintest words show up..

Anyways, how do i go about finding out what kind of ribbon i need.

(proceeds to dismantle.)

Hmm it might be easiest to type the make and model into google and find some typewriter supply shop. The oldest one in NYC just closed down and now there is only one left, I think, and everything's really expensive.

Does yours *ding* when you hit the end of the line? SO SATISFYING!
