it has a funny smell to and i'm sure it's done for, but how paranoid should i be about the other shoebox that was nearby?

looks like possible bacteria to me. I could be wrong though. What exactly does it smell like? Is it a sour smell?

Looks like myc excreting metabolites because of bacteria

My thoughts exactly. Probably caused by overly wet substrate. It should be alright to finish this flush at least. Bacteria isn't good but it can be dealt with as long as it isn't too bad.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I took a smell this morning when it was dry and it wasn't the same as when wet. I'm not sure if the smell when moist is the coir or if its mold/bacteria.

Either way I'll be keeping an eye on it.

That's all you can do now. You should at least see a few shrooms so its not a total fail. :shrug: What are you misting habits like? I know I have experienced problems with bacteria when I first started from over misting. the key is not to over do it with the sprayer. You don't want a wet sub you want a sub that looks like it has a light dew on it.

well good news, except for the little guy whos keeled over for some reason

I wasn't sure what it was so decided to just leave it alone with extra air for about 36 hours and hope it dries out if it was anything. Then began misting again and reduced FAE back to normal
