Yellow/orange not in FAQ

I know someone who just picked a large shroom off of his first cake. The cake was showing a little bit of yellow orange on the top when it was birthed but it didn't smell too bad. He would have thrown it away had he recognized it from the contam faq. He has a few cakes with the same type of stuff but it doesn't spread. I have to admit, it doesn't smell pleasant. Anyway, the shroom he picked is gorgeous but smells sort of the same way, damn I wish I could accurately explain the smell, but I have a feeling that somebody knows what I'm talking about. I know that contams can travel to the mushrooms but this one is soo pretty I just can't understand how it could be contaminated. My question is, what is that orange/yellow stuff and what is the normal range of smells that I can expect?

I have seen orangeish yellowish type of stuff on the top of my bags, and I generally attribute it to a layer of dead mycelium from being handled to much, or dry air.  If the layer of yellow/orange peels off cleanly, leaving no residue behind, then it is probably what i just mentioned, otherwise, i dont know..... i am lucky to have never had anything other than a bit of trich :tongue: :grin:

my friends had it, and isnt dead yet....it doesnt spread...but its kind of weird.... i think when he dunked it more of the shit started coming out on one

You need to dunk the cakes ASAP.
If they get too dry they will surely die.... the rime wasn't on purpose.
