I think your just overexcited and paranoid. Just wait, if it turns into a huge foul smelling multi-colored contamination, then your paranoid fantasies were correct.

There's a couple of possibilities. One is that it could be contamination. Usually once mycelium gets established in an area it's hard for other contaminants to get a hold there. The other possibility is that it's mycelial waste (mushroom shit). This usually happens with older mycelium or occasionly in jars where there is too much humidity/too hot. If it starts coming in in Technicolor, worry. If it stays white/off white I wouldn't worry too much. Wait to see what happens. In the end if the jar is fine, you can always just cut away any suspect areas. Patience young Skywalker.

Rip off any NON white mycellium, the rest will be fine when cased. The pure white myc. is the only stuff you want too case. The green will not come back because all colonized mycellium have a antibiotic that keeps any (intruder's) bacteria away. Thats where we got our antibiotic's from, mold !hope this helps... later.... -=zillion=-

Mycelium isn't always WHITE. The specific strain you are trying to cultivate along with growing conditions will determine the ultimate color of your mycelium. I've had entire batches of jars come out "off-white" or even closer to grey, but nevertheless it's mycelium. Also in a jar MANY types of mycelium are growing at once. So it is possible (and I've had it happen to me) that half of your jar is rhizomorphic (ropey) and half tomentose (cottony). In your case it sounds like you have a small sector of tomentose mycelium. And while I'd tend to agree that we get some antibiotics from mold, fungus is very different than mold.
