Weird....
    #2172977 - 12/12/03 02:27 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

hmmm...seen these pins the other day....except that the base is gigantic compared to the cap, and they're kinda striated brown/tan...
not aborting, but not growing real quick...i know the fruits will be small, because he only made the substrate layer bout 1/4 inc thick...but they look real funny...any suppositions?

In my experience, thick pins are good things.

Just the substrain that is fruiting, plus the environmental conidtions. But, when they start larger like that, it usually means that they will end up larger.

It happens. They look really funny when that happens. Just a weird substrain, I think, unless it's happening in a few casings and not just one.

"i know the fruits will be small, because he only made the substrate layer bout 1/4 inc thick"

I've gotten 8" tall fruits from 1/4" substrate -- I've also gotten ones 1/2" tall.

I'm guessing the corn as substrate has something to do with the coloring....and as far as speed of growth, the fact that these spores have made it this far is amazing...the syringe was over 3.5 years old, as far as i know..
One of the pins formed on aierial mycellium,....it fell over...some others are pushing the aieral clumps up...oh well, fruiting is taking ALOT longer than expected...pins have been showing for over 10 days now, and they're still goin sloooowwww....if the caps break veil like this, there is no way a spore print is viable...they're about a 3rd the size of the stem...
I'll see if i can't sneak some pics on later, these are coo..

my dog said he might want to water the casing around the pin... if needed... just a suggestion. im not completely sure, but the dog said something about having a similar problem...the pins were small and fat but were maturing slowly...he watered the casing avoiding the pins and within a few days the fruits matured.

I'll convey your dog's suggestions to the bird in question...
