old agar dish
    #2559989 - 04/14/04 03:16 PM (20 years, 6 days ago)

I have a agar petri dish that Has full B+ myc growth on it, that is about a year old
It dosent look contamed at all but the edges are starting to roll in do to dryness It has been raped in about five layers of saran wrap for most of its live and I just recently put it in the frige to try to slow it down.
My question is, How long do these things usally last, could it still work, and is there any thing I can do to it, to give it moister or anything...

any help well be great.

You could try to transplant bits
to new plates.

I would if I had new plates, but this thing was given to me,, I was just hopin it had enough in it to start a quart or two of popcorn so that I could g2g.

The center of it looks pretty healthy its just the edges that are dryed up.

Worth a try, if it looks clean still, it might be good to go.
Dont get your hopes up too high though. Sometimes things dont recover.

Cut out the best bits then, and add to grain, then use the best for g2g and all could be good.

Good luck

Ive bought back some real dryed and cracked up plates before, if
you still see fuzz, chances are pretty high imho.
Though i've only done it to agar, and lost a few each time.
So I guess themore jars you try to inoculate, the better chance of
success.

No, you can germinate spores on pop corn.

There was some discussion of rehydrating andgrowing dried caps in the advanced forum. According ro 'rodgerrabbit' if you rehydrate the fungus it should be viable and able to be used as normal.
