Removing stumps after harvest cutting method

I noticed that second flushes are way less abundant when I use the cutting method of harvesting; where the stumps are no mushrooms are going to grow (at least from what I have seen till now).
So I was thinking of removing the stumps after cutting the shrooms. Anybody that uses this method? Do you guy's get less shrooms in the second flush like I do?

Your not supposed to get the same on 2nd flush as you did first flush. Each time you get a new flush it should be less, about 1/2-2/3 the previous flush. I Gently pull mine up, then cut the stumps off.

It's not going to be near as good as first flush. I am aware of that... Just wondering if pull and twist gives better second flushes. Because every stump you leave means a place where no mushroom will grow. Since I had an extremely good first flush on a tub recently..., it's one big stumpy sub almost hahaha (don't know if that's english)

I had another tub that was almost as amazing. I pulled and twisted those shrooms and re cased it because it left deep craters where the coir was teared off with the shrooms. I had the most abundant second flush to date on that tub.

So trying to find out what your experiences are when it comes to twist and pull VS cutting, when it comes to the second flush. Reasoning logically I almost cant come to another conclusion than that the twist and pull method must allow for better second flushes. But am I right?

I really like the cutting! It saves time not having to clean those harvested shrooms! Next time I am going to try to wrench those stumps out and remove them and see if second flushes improve over the plain cut subs, where the stumps are left..

Hyphal knots can still form on the stumps and turn into mushrooms. That's what happens for me. I've always found my later flushes are better when I cut to harvest and leave the stumps.

Oh really? That's very interesting. That doesn't happen in my tubs at all! No wonder why my second flushes are much less abundant then when pulling and twisting. Better second flushes when cutting huh?! Hmmmm, totally different experience till now over here...

My experience is like yours.  When I cut and harvest nothing grows where the stumps are.  in my limited experience I get the best second flushes when I twist and pull then slightly agitate the whole top of my sub with a fork.

Yes, the stumps fuzz back over with mycelium and then grow hyphal knots from them just the same as they grow anywhere else.

Better 2nd flushes come with providing the same good pinning conditions needed for first flush. If your not getting a good second flush, analyze your surface conditions and also look at if contamination is coming in. You will get a weak shitty 2nd flush if mold is coming through.

Hmmm, so I am not the only one :smile:. But if cared for properly they should grow out of stumps I understand. Thanks Mad (and all the others). I do mist 3 times a day. I can try casing lightly between flushes. I think that will do the trick (it gave me a very good second flush when I pulled and twisted).
I can imagine that scratching could indeed also help to get some shrooms above the ground Claybirdd. Good find :smile:

Make sure you hydrate your sub AFTER 1st flush. ONLY mist as needed for surface conditions. A couple times I hydrated heavy and sprinkled dry vermiculite across the surface of the sub, then misted heavy. The vermiculite pulled a little water from the sub, as well as what was misted on it. Those have given good 2nd flushes when I did it.

I actually did almost the same and got a very good second flush (only once). I dunked (floating) the sub and used the shower to hydrate the top of it. Then re cased with verm! Will try something like that! :smile::)
