Removing casing dirt from shrooms.
    #513056 - 01/07/02 09:58 AM (23 years, 3 months ago)

I have better results from casings as opposed to cakes but when I harvest a big crop, the base of the shrooms are always encased in the soil and vermiculite.

I've removed this with the obvious methods
---brushing it away when I harvest
---rinsing them off in cold water
---brushing it away after they are completely dry....

All these methods work, but they are tedious and time consuming, especially when I have a BIG harvest.

Any bright ideas? .....Thanks Tannis

Cutting it away with a knife at harvest time.

yeah just pick off the mushroom by twisting like you normally do and make a clean cut off of the bottom where the casing substance is. yeah you throw away a little portion of the bottom of the mush but its easy; quick and guarantees that you arent eating moss or heat-treaded rocks :)
