growing up with no money and being a skier i learned early that there is no point in buying something full price when it comes out if you can likely pick up the same line of product one or two year previous for a fraction of the amount.

i picked up some really impractical super wide powder skis for 179 because they are 5 years old but never used, where new they would be 800+ even if i could afford it im not sure i would see the logic.

I think there's a common misconception that a lot of these brands charge exorbitant amounts for their products which is generally untrue. Take Supreme for example. They don't sell t-shirts at $200 a pop, their lazy band-wagon fans buy them at that price on the resale market. If you're lucky enough to buy a new Supreme shirt from their store, Supreme will only charge you $30 on average. Which is fair.

The only thing that makes Supreme products worth so much is the fact that they keep their runs mostly exclusive. They only make so much of one product and try to limit sales to one-per-person which is part of what has made them so successful as a brand. I've heard from plenty of resellers that if you go in looking to buy a size small to resell when you clearly wear a large, the staff will give you nothing and make you fuck off.

Supreme even goes so far as to try and troll the people who buy their products from resellers by releasing obvious shitty products with their brand name slapped onto it. This is how we ended up with the several thousand dollar Supreme clay brick and people still buy it.



It's the 'Fountain' by Duchamp all over again except played out in a brand.
