Fruiting methods compared for species

There are a number of ways we can fruit saprophytic mushrooms... Cake, pod, box / tub, fruiting bag, wooden log...

I'm interested how differently the most popular species react to each approach, what the benefits and drawbacks are when we compare them... Like fruiting bags seems to be the number one go to method for commercial growers, but at least for psilocybe, it seems to be frowned upon here in the forums... Also I guess some mushrooms like to fruit from a vertical, others from a horizontal surface (?)...

For example I'm curious why people don't seem to like bags here, and in contrast why commercial ops are all about them...

Filter bags allow the substrate to be sterilized. When sterilized you can use different supplements in quantities up to 50% for say oysters. This allows maximum yields for sq footage. Some say it's expensive ,but putting a pencil to it I venture to say it is cheaper.

Yeah its waaaay cheaper if youre selling your fruits. On average, adding 20% wheat bran to my sawdust bags tripled my yield for oysters. At $12 for 60lbs its definitely worth it.

Basically all saprotrophic mushrooms must be grown in bags and fruited inside a Fruiting Chamber with fans both in and out and foggers for humidity. Species like Oysters and Lions Mane need a TON of Fresh Air Exchange in order to fruit properly - and while there will be some differences in optimum spec range species to species - a majority of what we cultivate does well in the same environment. This is not to say you cant have some success with lesser means - but they would in no way reach their full potential.
