Is this what I'm looking for? Went out again and it didn't take long before I found some of thes guys growing next to a tree

if you are looking for cyanescens your missing the mark, cyanescens wont have a veil like that, they wont have the color gills, they wont have a rough cap at all the stipe is gonna be a smooth crisp white and will almost always stain blue on the stipe and around the cap margin, and the spore print will always been a brownish purple

If you just pick up every random mushroom you find and hopehopehope it’s gonna take you a million years to find actives. Research what is actually in your area and what habitats those like and then go from there. Or get everything you find IDed. That’s how I learned but I didn’t really care that much about actives

This

if your in western WA, cyanescens are by far gonna be the easiest to find.. wood chip beds in parks is where you want to look..

but at the end of the day doc is right, you gotta put in the work and research what your looking for.
it can take persistence

all the information you need is located on this site

Thank you guys. And sorry not tryna spam. I've never seen cyans in person that I know of. I just moved to Washington recently so was just going by pictures I've seen of cyans and they kinda looked similar  to me so I picked them with hope haha.  I do need to do more research though and will try not to bother you guys to id every mushroom I see haha.

I don't think anyone's bothered, it's just that you really are more likely to find them if you know what to look for and where.

Let me reframe it: you can absolutely get every mushroom you see IDed if you really want (and we don’t consider it spam at all, we love it) it’s just gonna be a slow way to find actives and that seems like that is what you’re after. That’s all we’re getting at. Welcome to the Shroomery!

yeah its all good, its been really unseasonable lately i checked quite a few places the other day and wasnt able to find any. they are out there but after we get more fall-like weather and get some hydration in the ground things should be a lot less challenging

you're good people's. So from a little googling what I've gathered so far is that I should be looking for cyans azurs and baeos living in Western Washington. Any others you guys know about that grow up here? Or if there's anything I should look for to help i.d. the azurs and baeos?

Ah ok starting to learn the site more now and just found the page where it lists all the actives in your state. Turns out there's a lot more than I thought

I live in the PNW - I can tell you that you are going to have to look hard, look in the right places and look with purpose....

I'm not out looking specifically for actives (I like cool looking things and culinary mushrooms) but I look at a lot of mushrooms... I have a growing assemblage of photos and have 'collected' somewhere around 500-600 species over the past few years. I haven't identified a single one as a hallucinogen - well other than Amanita muscaria - those are all over the place, though I've heard they are just as likely to make you sick as high....

If you rely on simply finding random mushrooms you're going to pull in tons of Mycena, mica caps, honey fungus, sulius (slimy boletes) and the like... not to mention there are some seriously dangerous ones out there... I'm pretty sure I found a huge colony of deadly webcaps in a city park the other day... and I know I found a nice clump of Pholiotina rugosa - they are absolutely lovely and very poisonous.

pretty aren't they... but deadly and sometimes mistaken for Psilocybe.

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

azures your only gonna find on the coast for the most part, baeos seem to be a more rare species. cyanescens are probably the most easy to identify and they dwell in wood chips that u can find in parks and what not

they are by far the most common species and one of the more potent, id suggest looking for that one, things have been a bit too dry it seems lately although people seem to be find a few here and there.
once the weather get more seasonable and we get some hydration going in the ground the season will hopefully really kick off.

until we have some decent rain if i were you, i would just spend as much time as i could researching cyanescens..
