Hi there. I was just wondering if anyone knows any good pickin areas, feilds, or forests that one could stop at in the lower mainland or the Queen Charlottes? I planning on going up to the BC for a road trip with my buddy this summer. We just want to go out and have a good time. Any help would be great.. Thanks.

I live in maple ridge BC canada and I have picked 2 kinds of shrooms only out here p.stunzii (my fav, and I know what some of you are thinking "those mushies arent even that strong" well yes they can be stong a bunch of stunziis and a big pot of water is all you need)
anyway I have picked p.stunzii and p.beaocystis and my buddy has picked liberty caps before
when you come to the lowermainland it a city area so dont expect nothing but open fields and forest for picking you gotta look around
My fav thing about stunziis is that they are VERY common
anyway if you have a specific qeustion I will do my very best to help
by the way have you picked mushies befroe>????

I used to live in the lower miainland myself, so I know what to expect for fields. I have never picked mushrooms before but I do plan on hooking up with some people down in the lower mianland who will teach me "the way".....I want to go to Agassiz.
I was very interested in the P. Beaocystis because from what I've read it's potent like the P. Cyanescens which I am also very interested in. I plan on heading up a little further north for the Cyans' though. I don't know anything about them or anyone who does either though, hence this post.
Any help for I.D. would be great although I do not intend to pick.. well.. at least not eat anything until I have someone experienced with me.
Also, don't you worry about Galerina Autumnalis? From what I've read quite recently in a reply to something you posted ... "it also grows side by side Stunzii in it's natural environment". Just something for you to think about...
On another note, your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I have no concern for stunziis evil twin
because stuziis start out non-psychoactive on wood chips it when they reach grass that they become psycoactive and I have never even seen them on wood chips just grass
as for the EVIL Stunziii(deadly galeria)(spelling?)
It grows on the forest floor only from what I know

Galerina autumanlis grows in grassy areas as well as in woodchips, mulch and soil.
Do not be fooled, they can even grow under a cluster of P. stuntzii's in the garden and you would not notice it if you were picking clusters and clumps of shrooms.
And they are psychoactive once the fruiting bodies appear. Not as you said they are not psychoactive until they appear in the grass. Who told you that?
The lawn varieties will grow from January through December if there is no freeze and if the lawn sevice provideds perpetual care. That is they mow every week or so and refertiilize the lawns. The woodchip varieties start to fruit through late September through December until the frost or extreme cold.
Some times woodchipp varities will grow along the edge of the grass along side a mulched areas. But your infor regarding them growing into the grass to become psychoactive is not true.
If you need to view P. stuntzii's I have hundreds of photos at my site at:
http://mjshroomer.yage.net/species46.html
just go to that page and look at Psilocybe stuntzii and there are numerous pages of both woodchip varieties and lawn varieties and fresh and dried varieties.
Also look at the mushroom poiisoning page
http://mjshroomer.yage.net/guidetext4.html
with pictures of Galerinas and Psilocybe stuntzii and Psilocybe cyanesce3ns and how they look alike.
