ID needed please : blue baeo in bc?
    #1984682 - 10/06/03 06:18 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hi
i picked some mushrooms today.
At first i though i picked some baeos, but their caps are blue ..
So i don't really know now.. I know some Boletes looks like baeos and are blue and bruises blue and are poisonous, but i never seen pictures of those..
unfortunately, i don't have a digital cam (i have to get one soon!).
But i'll try to post a good description.

Cap: 10mm - 20 mm, blue-green with a separatable pellicle. doesn't change color in drying. It was pretty sticky when moist too.

Stem: 30 - 50 mm by 5 - 10 mm. bruises blue fast and often already blue before picking. When i compared it with baeos i noticed very small white fibrills on it.

Gills: close to subdistant. chocolate brown to cinnamon brown. attachement; i'm not sure about it.. i don't have enough experience with it and the book i have give very poor descriptions of different kind of attachments. But the attachment are just like baeos. I think we call that adnate and sometime sinuate.

Spores: thats the very bad thing about it, i took too long before to come home and they dried too much, so i have a very poor spore print. I just put another moist glass on my caps and i'm gonna wait a long time before to look (tomorrow morning maybe i'm gonna have better print, i'm gonna post it if i find it..).. With the print i have it's gonna be between chocolate brown and purplish brown..

I know it sucks i don't have the spore print for good, but the point of this post i more to know if it's possible to have blue-green caped baeos ??
If yes, i'm pretty sure if my spores are gonna be purplish brown they are baeos.. And if not, they are something else and the spores should confirm that tomorrow..

Oh.. i forgot: habitat: In BC. I found them under small mapples i think. They were growing alone but we could find like 10 in a 5 square meter. It was growing on wood debris and on moss with wood debris under.. It was pretty humid too..

Thanks

I believe what you've come across is Stropharia aeruginosa. I came across several of them today. Just my best guess. Here's a link to a picture. http://www.bluewillowpages.com/mushroomexpert/stropharia_aeruginosa_01big.jpg

Good luck.

I found them in the lower mainland around Chilliwack ..
They look a bit like the picture in the link but the caps are more conic and parabolic ..
The spore print didn't work.. too bad ..
I think i'm gonna go back next weekend and do a print faster ..
