Right in the front yard. That was taken yesterday. It's grown bigger, but the veil hasn't broken yet. I'll print it if I get a positive ID.

The veil was torn this morning so I picked it & am printing it now. It was really gripped onto that tree. I'm pretty sure it's Gymnopilus Junonius because of the thick stipe.

Take a small bite, let it sit on your tongue, and spit it out.  What do you taste?

Edit:  I'm not TI, but it looks interesting :pizza:  Out of curiousity, where are you located?  (I'd like to track the progression of gyms as they fruit from north US - south.  Just so I know of a good time to hunt)

Went back & checked. It has a slightly bitter taste when touched to the tongue.

Why? You can't be poisoned unless you eat it, mushrooms must enter the gastrointestinal tract to be poisonous, taste and smell are parts of the identification process.

Looks like gymnopilus junonius, if it tastes bitter and has that rusty spore print I'd go for it. Any bruising?

thats a nice group of mushrooms. is the base of the stem tapered? my guess is junonius over luteus.

I didn't really see much bruising. That second pic is after printing the cap for about 20 hours or so.

It was also pleasantly fragrent.

The stem had a pretty even thickness from base to top.

A last bump on this. The other two pics I took of it before I printed it

The print:

Any other thoughts before I label it as Junonius?
