trying not to get discouraged here--tried WA roadside today...id help, please
    #25539614 -

Got these on the side of the road ---shady, overgrown a bit, mossy (didn't get a habitat pic).  The gills are very dark--either thought they were purple when I picked them, but they now look more black.  The spore print is looking a dark brown.  Stems are long (5") and cream colored, and relatively hollow.  Caps are large--3"-5", yellowish that gets lighter towards the edges, delicate but meaty (and one turned up since I picked it).  I was a bit rushed picking them, so they fell apart a bit (car was coming).

My attempts at id are panaelous group.  The samples in the photo is rough, but I tried to capture the features.

I sure hope I'm getting closer 'cuz I am dying to try something!!!  As before, any help will be great appreciated!!!  Thanks

Well you're on the right track if you were looking for cubensisbecause those look fairly close except the gills are too crowded there's no bruising and the spore print for cubensis is from cinnamon to purple to black and cubensis is grown out of cow manure and I think you're too far north. Check out the what psilocybes grow wild in my area thread. I jus go to Google and type that in and there's a state by state list. Look the ones in your area up and find their habitat and go from there. Don't get discouraged. If you look hard and long enough you will find them. Cheers! And those are probably an agaricus species. By the way Panaeolus caps usually hang and are kind of bellshaped. They are generally small fruits.

Tip, its definitely not an active Pan if it has a brown spore print.

Thanks for the input and encouragement.  Just got back in from a quick forest forage (I'm retired, so I have plenty of time for the hunt)--found one that the stem turned purple as soon as I touched it...promising.

Purple isn't really the color were looking for, the bruising really is very blue

Keep studying photos of the active mushrooms in your area, read up on what types of terrains they like

Check out landscape areas with woodchips this time of year as a well as areas with lots of fallen wood.
