Found downhill from my manure piles. In the walking path so it wasn't there yesterday,  otherwise I would have run a wheelbarrow over it moving manure.

It's fresh for sure.  So if it's what I think it is i'm probably gonna eat it today.

My guess is agaracus campestris

Smell? Color it bruises, does the bruising change color after 15 minutes, like from yellow to brown?

I cut the stem off to print it.  It smells delicious.  Mushroomy earthy and sweet all at once

No phenolic or medicine cabinet smell (be sure to crush the stem base to check for smell, it can be hard to detect)? Bruising Turns from yellow to brown in 15 minutes is good to eat. Compare to Agaricus augustus.

Now you've got me imagining things and asking strangers to sniff my mushroom lol

It's just as weird as it sounds yes.

Icrushed the base it smells like sweet mushroom to me and everyone else I've asked.  3 people in total.  None thought medicine cabinet.

Everywhere i'm handling the stem is turning darker brown.. smells sweet for sure

Slice the stem base, does it turn yellow, then brown or straight to brown? I'm not 100% but I think it's either A. campestris or A. Augustus.

Ok so it kinda fades to a yellow tan then light brown.

Smells like almonds now

I'm assuming the cap is larger than 5 inches, Agaricus arvensis is as close as I can get.


EDIT: if you eat it , be sure to cook it thoroughly.

The cap is about a foot.  What happens if I ate it raw?

Many species of mushrooms have compounds that can cause gastroenteritis if eaten raw, including grocery store mushrooms. Not everyone is affected by this but it does have, especially with wild specimens

Edit: cooking thoroughly breaks down those compounds.

No Alcohol for me:shrug: I'm allergic, I break out with a case of dumbass everytime, but I'm always up for hunting, problem is most just want to hunt actives.

Honestly I prefer hunting edibles.  Less likely to get in trouble that way... that's not to say I don't keep my eyes open.

I have only gathered ones that are easy to identify and really would enjoy hunting edibles more often.

I can only imagine the plethora you've found on the trail.

So far ive collected and eaten
Chanterelle
Chaga
Morels
A couple different boletes
Oyster mushrooms
Ganoderma which i'm kicking myself in the ass for not cultivating with the one I found.  Lazy ass I am. Haven't found one since!
Turkey tail
Amanita
Honey mushroom

And I think that's it. Seriously need to spread out and find more it's so fun!

Cultivated Ganoderma lack the beneficial sterols they have in the wild, it could be  a novelty grow I guess.
