huge liberty caps in scotland
    #1917814 -

Yesterday me and a mate went mushroom hunting out in the countryside. We were a bit dissapointed to only find 30 in total, but a dozen of them were the biggest liberty caps I've ever seen. I wish I'd taken pictures but we ate them almost immediately . Anyway, they each easily had the flesh of six or seven (estimate) normal sized lib caps. We ate fifteen each, and I can honestly say that's the most I've ever tripped on mushrooms, even more than when I ate around 70. Another factor is that these were all fresh and some of the ones in the past have been dried.

Anyway, I'm hoping to find more of these monster liberty caps soon. Anyone else found really big ones?

Here's a brief (whoops) trip report...

-------------------------------------
Having searched for several hours, and finding only 15 liberty caps each (although a dozen were unbelievable huge), we walked to the reservoir, and sat with a view over the water out to trees and the hills. Very quickly I began to feel the effects come on; a relaxation of the muscles, and things began to look strange. Soon everything I looked at was moving; the trees were swelling, inflating, drifting, swirling; the water appeared to be swirling in intricate patterns, and even the stones on the path right in front of us were floating around. These visuals and feelings got stronger and stronger until I felt I was no longer sitting; everything (including me and the bench) was floating.
By this time, dusk was setting in. I looked out to the hills, and in the half light, I saw what appeared to be a huge beast of the hills violently (and unsuccesfully) trying to pull down a pylon. Of course, the "beast" was merely some trees, but the hallucination was very vivid. When I informed my friend, he also looked and saw the beast of the hills, and this caused much laughter.
I also saw psychadelic letters in everything I looked at; the trees were made up of letters, as was the water, all swirling together and forming words. This is quite hard to explain, but suffice to say it was very trippy.
Soon it was pitch black, and sadly we couldn't see to get any more proper visuals, so we decided to walk round the resevoir. We couldn't see at all where we were going, as some of it was through the woods and was literally black, so we just had to try and stay on the path. My thoughts were so confused and mixed up that I couldn't concentrate on anything. We phoned a friend, and told him we were tripping. I really can't remember what else was said, but eventually the guy hung up. We thought we must have offended him, possibly by tripping without him, but later when we spoke to him it turned out that we merely repeated the entire conversation, including everything he said, over and over again, so, quite understandably, he had enough of us gibbering tripping idiots and hung up.
After a good while walking, we started to feel we'd left the peak, and as it was getting late we headed home. Cycling on shrooms is not a good idea; I was all over the road.
Once home I had a very nice spliff and, this seemed to reveive some of the "spaced out" mushroom feeling.
All in all, a very enjoyable trip, probably my best to date yet. I'm just hoping I'll find more of these monster liberty caps.

nice find, even if you didn't get a verry large haul. it's nice to occasionaly find those big ones [not that semies are ever big, i like to clasify them as small or tiny, where most are tiny ]

i'm just twiddling my thumbs till they start coming up in the PNW in force. they are my favorite mushroom [i know this changes about every week ].

not a bad trip report too.

good luck and happy hunting.
peace,

Bah now it emerges that we (in East Anglia) won't be getting any rain until after this weekend :frown: So frustrating!

I am wondering if I should even bother going this year...

With the lack of rain and approaching winter I doubt there will be many, and I have never been picking before, making my chances of coming home with even a trips worth very slim.

Don't lose heart - the same day we found 30, three other friends, who we were originally going to go picking with, found over 200! I would have been well pissed off if we didn't have such a good trip. Also remember that mid-September's still early in the season. Plenty of weeks to go.

I liked your coherent trip report Mr.Kite.It seems to me that your "beast" may have been a direct communication from the land itself expressing real anger over the way such power is mostly sourced. The Earth spins.....
