I picked over 100 of these big badboys yesterday on the Yorkshire Moors but unfortunately ate the majority of them ! It's been frosty for a while in this region and I noticed a few puddles with ice forming but there were still some new fruits coming up. These are what I saved to clone onto agar.

I find the Grindleford/Hathersage area to be quite productive.

The subject of the effects of frost is however an interesting one.Does anyone know the temperature range of which semilanceata are tolerant? What temperatures will released spores tolerate prior to absorption,ie how long can they rest on a frosted soil surface before they become inactive?

What do you mean by this statement ? Are you warning people to be careful not to slip on the ice ?

Can't help you with that one I'm afraid.

There are rules about posting specific locations for picking, so be careful. I'd keep it as general as a city and a habitat description.
I'm not sure about frost. In Newfoundland, people have always told me that "first frost" is when shroom season starts. But personally, although this is my first season on the hunt, i found way more libbies before the frost than after.

I was being extremely vague about the location Gonzopunk. It would be like finding a needle in a haystack finding my spots The first frosts in this area were over a month ago but the libs are still coming on strong.

nice finds Bi0 I always seem to find much larger, sometimes huge liberty caps right at the end of their fruiting season, especially if it stays very cold (but > 0 ) and very wet have you noticed anything like this?

I can't say I've ever seen anyone picking in the patches I frequent so therefore they have the chance to grow to full maturity but yeah, I have noticed that the later flushes towards the end of the season definately produce larger fruits.

Hi Bio could you live up to your name and tell me HOW to clone onto agar?Am I to assume that the "inseminated" (?) gel can then be used for transplantation and/or cultivation?

I'd recommend using home made peroxidated potato dextrose yeast agar for cloning although I mostly use sucrose. Buy the agar from chinese supermarkets, it's alot cheaper.
Dextrose is more commonly used but plain old sucrose (ordinary table sugar) works just fine.
