Help ID'ing possible truffle
    #25490961 -

Hello, I'd appreciate any help in identifying this mushroom which at first glance seemed like a type of truffle but I realise it could be any related species. The one in the photos was above ground however the other two below. Thanks in advance.

Habitat:
At the edge of a birch woodland, in a small patch of dry soil surrounded by ferns and other shrubs. The ground was disturbed as if something had dug the fresh one up.

Gills:
N/A

Stem:
N/A

Cap:
Whitish-brown, sort of tough, leathery and a bit spongey.

Spore print color:
The inside is a sort of grey ash colour if this is where the spores are?

Bruising:
N/A

Other information:
After breaking the mushroom in half a very pleasant spicy-garlic odour is noticeable.

General Location:
Central Scotland, UK

Found some other ones next to it that had clearly went a bit off. These two were underground.

More pictures can be posted if necessary.

Looks like a Scleroderma species, i.e. an Earthball.

Compare with Scleroderma citrinum.

Thanks for the quick reply, I think you're spot on there Duggstar, just had a look online and I remember seeing the hole in the other ones where the spores had burst through but wasn't sure. Looks like no fancy pasta for me then
