We found these growing near the base of a tree in a forest in western massachusettes, in a large patch. We also found somoe gymno specs but they were really rotten and mushy, we do not know what these are however if you could help me out that would be appreciated.

Also these are quiet interesting we found 2 of them individually growing near a tree, right in the base, in an inlet, one on eachside. These are not as important but if anyone has any ideas!

thanks in advance
PS- spore print pendingright now

I can go ahead and tell ya the spore print will be white. Those are Armillaria mellea or similar species. Edible when cooked throughly, although some people still get sick from them.

Not hallucinogenic. Perhaps the gyms you found were really another mushroom that dropped white spores, and thats what the white filmy stuff was. You can see the spores on the caps of those mushrooms that you just picked, that's what keyed me in on the ID. See how underneith the caps there are white spores on the caps of the mushrooms below?

yah the gymnos didnt have a white film on them, they were just rotten and all mushy, but there were a couple good ones at the bottom i was 95% sure of their id because it looks exactly the same as the text book.
The ones we got the amirelleas or whatever, had the white stuff on them, i guess they are spores, i didnt know what it was. (the gymnos didnt have anything on them just were like rotting and "melting") But thanks for the id, we are probably going to go out andlooksome more

Always check prints on Gyms because Omphalotus illudens is a very common and similar look-a-like that is dangerously poisonous.
