San Pedro cutting

I just recieved a San Pedro cutting and planted it about 1 1/2 inches in some succulent soil mix, I watered it and positioned it in full sun. I've heard it takes up to 3 weeks for root growth.. during this time should I water the soil as if there were roots? ie: when the soil is completely dry, or should I water less?

they only need water once a month or so. as long as you dont let it go weeks bone dry it will be fine. ive had cacti cuttings that started developing roots and they were just setting on a planting bench
