Enjoying The Evil Within 2
    #24732784 -

It's pretty good so far
a step up from the first
The first one was kind of hindered by the 30fps, letterboxing and it kind of got boring in certain parts because all you do is walk forward. The boss battles were also kind of weird. You fight this one boss in the garage that has a weak point and the fight doesn't even work that well, the stealthing part is optional and hitting it's weak point doesn't do that much more damage then shooting it. Sometimes I feel these games go through testing and the original idea gets ruined.

This one seems like the game that should've been made, a lot creepier and more strategy involved. The animations on the enemies are really good for someone who's played RE4 like 6 times or something
This and Dying Light are my favorite horror games this generation until Last of Us 2 comes out maybe.

I've always heard good things about the first but never played it.  Is the story for the second one a new story or does it add on to the first?  Am I going to enjoy it if I've never played the first or are there a lot of characters and elements that are more geared towards people continuing the series vs starting new?

One of the things I like about some series, for example assassins creed, is each game has its own individual story completely seperate from previous games, but then they have the little bit of over arching story line that sort of connects them all to each other, but its not really important at all to enjoy the game you're in.  You can completely ignore all the "outside in the current day real world" stuff and focus just on the story inside the animus on each game and love it.

There are other games, especially RPG's, where being invested in the earlier games is a major critical point to how much you are going to enjoy the later games, even though all can be played standalone, you just miss so many characters that were already developed, etc.

The first one is probably 10-20 bucks now
it'd be hard to tell you not to play it
I just played through the 2nd one faster so in my mind it's better

it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to play the 1st one it'd help you if you were rusty

I have so many damn games I've bought on steam because of sales and anticipation of them being great then never get around to playing them hahaha,.  Thats why I was asking if the second one was good enough as a stand alone game without me having played the first.  I'd be hard pressed to play the first even if its cheap.  Don't want to buy the second if I'm going to feel like I'm missing major story points and references because I didn't play the first, but if the story is good enough as a stand alone I'll prob check it out once it drops in price a bit.

I'm just saying man
I liked resident evil 4 and the ones after less and less
I like evil within
which is why it might be better to play the first rather than lay down all that money

same thing with TLoU
I wouldn't tell you to play the second one coming out in 2018 when the first is already less then 20 bucks
even if you play on casual it's still the same gameplay and it'll still help you in the sequel

how many mature 3rd person shooters are there?
Not a lot. I haven't even played division much

I made this topic to specifically tell people that if they played evil within and found it to be o.k. that the 2nd one is much better and worth 40 bucks IMO

It looks good, I haven't played those games but looks like my kind of experience.  I don't understand what's so bad about 30fps though?  Like how that really hinders the whole experience.

30fps fucks the game up bad for me
i grew up playing nintendo games
the only games that should be 30fps are open world games
the evil withen was done with an open world engine it didn't need
all it needed were some physics for items on the ground

the evil withen 2 uses a variation of the first one but it's now an entirely new engine
but most of the movable objects on the ground are completely gone this time

30fps just makes me insanely tired after a short time
a 60 fps game i can play non stop it just keeps me awake

the letterboxing in 1 on console also makes it hard to see but you can turn that off on p.c.

yeah i'd say go with the p.c. version if you want the full experiance tbh
if you can spend 20bucks on a 2hr dvd you can spend 20 bucks on ew1

I'm looking forward to trying it

But man...if you haven't played outlast 2....give it a shot

It isn't tied to 1 in any real way. And loads of improvements

So fucking scary and fucked up

Resident evil 7 borrowrd a lot of good ideas and scare tactics from outlast 1 and 2

I bought outlast a few days after it came out (the first not the second) and the shit was to damn scary to play hahahaha.  Playing with headphones in a dark empty house was no bueno.

I just can't do horror games with jump scare stuf for some reason.  I can do thriller type of horror, mind bending horror, monsters, just not jump scares. haha.  I always end up smashing or spilling something at some point.
