Are we going to end up at war with Russia over Syria?
    #25133513 -

Ever since Putin rolled out his new toys, he's been aggressive and possessive of Syria. Seemingly support chemical attacks and a barbaric regime. Trump threatened to fire missiles at Syria and Russia responded that the missiles would be shot down and that whatever fired it would be destroyed (more than likely a destroyer with 200 to 500 sailors on it).

So who's gonna call the other's bluff? Would Putin truely sink an American destroyer over Syria? Will Trump submit to Putin and lose face like that?

Interesting things are happening right now.

We now have two total open psychopaths on opposing sides leading two most powerful countries, at least in terms of weaponry. They don't care about the world, don't care about people or the future. They will start a nuclear war just for the lulz. Syria is just a convenient excuse. And I for one can't wait for that to happen. This world, and we as people, deserve it.

I hope nothing like that happens between the US and Russia. If anything does, I hope Canada is left out. But fuck, we're right under the flight path of the missiles that will be flying :uhoh:

Yeah, we might tell putin get out of syria and we will give you canada. He will say we already have enough ice and snow, to say nothing of moose. (meese, mooses?)

I'm turned off by the fact trump is still ranting about attacking after all that. Depending on what happens next I may agree with the libtards that he's a dangerous loose cannon or he will turn out to work out something. He tends to get ballistic then back down when he gets what he wanted in the first place.

I agree its looking dangerous out there. I'm not that far from a military base so I'll get fried first thing if it gets to that point.

The one hopeful thing is they are sending in experts to examine and make a report. Lets hope mr maniac waits until the report. We will see if he's a real maniac or just a master of bombast and negotiating.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

No, we're not going to war with Russia over Syria, not today and not 10 years from now.

I just realized something while watching TV...

No need for missiles if you send in SEAL teams. In, sabotage, out. These guys have done thousands of mission and train all the time. Going special ops into a shit show with 15 factions shooting at each other from all sides is the best way to deal with this. Everybody will blame every other group, Russia won't know shit or won't be able to prove anything.

Seems like the best course of action to me.

So long as the UK and France join the US, Putin would not be foolish enough to go to war. So far it seems that Italy at least has also committed some assets (a tanker aircraft).

Russia just needs to appear to protect Syria to consolidate it's control over Assad, Iran also has an interest in Syria being shunned.

So no, no war. This wont be like WWI where naively larger and larger powers were drawn into conflict. For 1) we know how that works out now 2) Russia would not stand a second against all out war with the US, France and UK.

There will be two objectives in their attack on Syria 1) for show, slap on Assad's wrists and 2) weaken future air defenses. HUGE bonus if they get to see S-400 in action. If Russia is smart it wont even use the S-400.

No. This is why I should be a general. It's a great tactical idea and you can't even deny it by offering a better tactic.

True. But Russia controls pretty much all the oil that fuels Europe. If it shuts down the pipes Europe will starve until a Canadian tanker reach Europe if not blown out of the water. The Russian economy will take a major economical hit, but that's called a war effort.

Cut off a countries oil and what happens? What do you think caused Pearl Harbor?

If you successfully starve a nuclear power you better get your second strike ready.

Well I mean, if you have money invested in rocket production then I understand your point of view

A great deal is made of air defenses in Syria but this is true. Syria and Russia can not afford to use their stock of missiles.

They will likely be used to defend air defenses themselves and maybe a few very prized targets.
