Presto pressure gauge condensation

Hey guys, I have a 23 quart Presto PC and have been getting heavy condensation on the pressure gauge when PCing. it gets bad enough that it can become hard to read the pressure.

Has this happened to anyone else? And did you find a solution?

From inside the gauge or on the outside of it?  It could be the little gasket, maybe just tighten the nut

I doubt it's the gasket if its on the inside...  IDK...

I have the same one I assume.  I haven't ever had this happen:justdontknow:

If you superglue a quarter on to the weight it will make it run quieter and it'll get up to about 15 and 1/2 PSI

Had mine for about 5 years now and I've never had condensation in the gauge. I imagine it's a problem with the gauge itself leaking internally. A quick search looks like they're available for about $20 (~$15 on Amazon with Prime)
Or you could use the weight to gauge pressure. I use 2 quarters on mine and it hits a little over 17 psi on the gauge before rattling.

If he's using a weight right now, he's already using a weight to gauge pressure.

I don't even pay attention to my gauge. I listen for a hiss and/or a jiggle. You want one or the other about once every two or three minutes. Pressure within the pot is determined by the mass of the weight and the plane of area within the contact perimeter orthogonal to gravity between the weight and the orifice and the ambient pressure.

Your gauge is more likely to fail than a weight and an orifice unless someone adds arbitrary weights to it lol.

Well yes of course a gauge is really only handy to know when you're coming up to pressure so you can adjust the heat accordingly or if you add extra weight to know where the pressure would be at (assuming the gauge is accurate).
All I know for sure is the pressure is above what the rated weight is meant for and below the overpressure plug which has to be less than the absolute failure of the PC itself.
(makes me wonder if anyone has ever ran one of these Prestos to the limit like Mythbusters and their water heater episode. Would be interesting to see the safety factor built into them)
