Re: Nearly 3 weeks off Suboxone, still in withdrawal [Re: koods]

Thanks everyone. Believe me, I know I'm being given a second chance at life here, and upon completion of this program, if successful, it will be as though the arrest never happened and the charges will be dropped. I suppose the court sees this a lot, and realizes that throwing opiate addicts or addicts in general in prison is in no way going to help rehabilitate them and they understand we just need help. In some ways I feel guilty, as if I'm getting rewarded for my fuck ups, but at the same time there is no reason not to take advantage of it in every way possible. I do feel as though I have earned it, first going through heroin withdrawal until I got put on subutex, then switched to suboxone, then dealing with 3 weeks of hell quitting suboxone cold turkey was and is not in any way easy and most people are lifers when it comes to suboxone or methadone, so I guess I have something to be proud of. I'm an idiot for ever becoming addicted in the first place, but it happens to so many people. Life is tough a lot of the time and what begins as a way to numb the stresses and pain in life soon becomes a full blown addiction, literally in the blink of an eye, and by the time I recognized the problem it was far beyond too late.

Anyway, from the research I have done, Vivitrol seems like a really good fit for me, supposedly Naltrexone does not have any withdrawal effects and seems relatively safe, and online almost everyone I've read who has been on the injections has been successful. I think it's worth a shot. I'll probably be in this program for a year, maybe even 18 months, but it's a small price to pay to get my life back, and not rot in a prison cell. I am excited to get my life back, to get working again and continue my life in a better place than I left off. I feel as horrendous as this addiction was, it didn't kill me, thus it made me stronger and wiser. Who knows? Maybe some day I can help someone else in need, that would be a great feeling.

I will not miss risking my life going to the projects in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn 3 or more times a day just to get a fix, and worrying about how I will get money for my next fix before I even finish my current fix. It truly is a vicious cycle I am more than excited to put behind me.

What kind of insurance?

Considering I have been unemployed for 3 months due to the addiction, I had to sign up for medicaid which I have never been on before. It is helping me in this case though, so I have no complaints. I have always worked hard so I feel getting some help to get my life back on track is perfectly fine.

This definitely isn't advice, but personally I had to get some roxy 30s about 2 1/2 weeks into my suboxone detox just to get rid of that long ass withdrawal.  Took little bumps just until I wasn't sick.  Unorthodox but it helped.  Though I was only on them for about a year or so.  Didn't have any PAWS or anything, just the long mildish shitty feels.

The worst for me was not being able to sleep.  Hot baths help with that.  Get in the bath and get it hot as you can handle it.  Wash up and just fucking lay in it.  When it cools off, drain most the water and run more hot.  Then try to fall asleep within the first half hour after getting out.  It worked for me as long as I hung in.  If stomach shit bothers you a lot, people swear by Immodium.  I can handle that part so never really bothered with it.

Exactly, the sleep is the worst part. I can't fall asleep and when I finally do, I wake up in tons of sweat. Also, the restless legs haven't gone away yet, but it's only noticeable when I lay down. It's strange because when I'm in bed I feel so awful I don't want to get up, but when I get up I feel a lot better. This is nowhere near heroin withdrawal, I could barely get through one day of heroin withdrawal. I would commit suicide if I had to do a week of that, no joke, I would literally hang myself or lay on the train tracks or something, I don't know how people get through heroin withdrawal cold turkey but that takes some real will power and strength and bravery, traits I can't say I have. I think the longest I ever lasted in FULL heroin withdrawal was 24 hours, maybe a bit more if I was transitioning to suboxone and in fear of precipitated withdrawal. People who have never experienced it can never know just how literally hellish it truly is.

I would love some roxy or even hydrocodone to take the edge off, but I can't, if I test positive for anything the next step is inpatient treatment which does not work for me, and if I fail that it's long term residential treatment, failing that it's prison treatment LOL, no thanks. I know you weren't telling me to do that, I'm just stating the obvious here.

I won't sit here and say the suboxone withdrawal is anywhere in the realm of heroin withdrawal, but the thing about opiate withdrawal is even minor withdrawal is excruciating, it's just the symptoms. Even when it isn't intense, it's still intense if you know what I mean. The restless legs were always the main downfall for me, not being able to sleep or get comfortable, and waking up in pools of sweat yet being too cold to come out of the blanket is another one. Nausea I will deal with, not that it's pleasant, but I'd deal with it if it was just nausea. Also the unbearable taste in my mouth sucks, I don't know if you know what I mean but when I am withdrawing I just have an awful, lingering taste in my mouth that makes everything awful.
