Are single parent households an issue worth looking at?
    #24778457 -

Quote:
Twenty five million children are growing up without fathers in the home. That’s 40%
of the kids in America. As reported by the Center for Children and Families.

In 1960, just 5 million children under 18 lived with only their mother. By 1980 that
number had more than doubled. Today, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation,
19 million children live in single-mother families, up from 17 million in 2000. In some
school districts today, including several in New York and Michigan, the majority of
families are led by a single mother.

Right, so if this ACTUALLY is an issue worth looking at, what are we gonna ACTUALLY do about it?

You know, stuff that ACTUALLY works, not the lipservice that those cunts of politicians spend all day spouting.

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

I agree.

Indeed, if it is an issue, what methods would remedy the situation?

Behavioral interventions? Cultural interventions?

My question was rhetorical. Trying to change things for what they are without first changing yourself from within is for the birds man.

Just accept it for what is. We have deep rooted cultural issues. They always come out one way or another.

Dedicate yourself to something greater than that nambi-pamby, airy-fairy bullshit they try and get you to focus on.

Who is "they?"

I am not dedicated to this issue. A mere poll takes less than five minutes to create.

I would make the parents stay married even if they hate each other.

Lots of things have to change in order for American families to be better off.

It's not the principal that hurts children so much. On the contrary children that grow up with two parents or one parent and an aunt or uncle or grandparent available of one sex turn out as average as other children. The issue is the amount of time a single parent can dedicate to their child while still providing for them.

You already divide the parent time in half and then make that one parent work twice as hard. It destroys any solid guidance and remodeling a child might get from a parent.

Economy changing would improve everyone's lives. Especially childrens.

But no one wants to start a "think of the children" campaign for an economic revolution so :ohwell: guess we're just fucked.

How many of those missing fathers are absent because they are incarcerated? Perhaps, to tackle the issue of single parent families, it would be wise to start by tackling the issue of mass incarceration in the USA.

It's definitely a problem

And you can thank the point when feminism went from mere equality to something more along the lines of entitlement

Today's feminism is cancer and is one of the root causes for the destruction of the family unit

Just as many if not more people would blame it on deadbeat dads that don't have to bear the child so they can skip out on responsibility.

...and an uprising in deadbeat dads could possibly be linked to the cancer of modern feminism

And how many good men have had their children literally stolen away from them and then raked over the coals financially for it all?

While there are other factors for sure, Modern feminism has a big part in the destruction of the family unit.

Are you arguing in favour of my point?

You are the one who tried to blame it on deadbeat dads.  And yes there was always deadbeat dads but the statistics of two parent families today vs 50 to 60 years ago are vastly diffefent

So you basically asserted their was a rise in deadbeat dads...

And that COULD be true and it could also very well have a strong link to the cancer of modern feminism

There are many factors at play of course, but one thing is certain....the model of the family unit has crumbled and the results of it speak for themselves

You can thank modern feminism for a huge part in that crumble

Men and women are NOT equal and never were meant to be.  Just that sentence is enough to make a modern feminist have a stroke.  Well, deal with it.  Both sexes, and yes there are only biologically two, have their strengths and weaknesses and are meant to work in unity together.

Another factor like you mentioned is the economy.  Even IF you are a strong family unit, it's very difficult to have the mother stay at home to raise the children these days.

It's a multi-headed hydra, as far as perpetrators go.  But in my opinion, modern feminism is at the top of the list
