If your culture grew reading stars for hundreds if not thousands of years i'm sure you would be able to read the night sky as if it were a book.

Im down in NZ and the stars at night are very dank, you get lost in them if you look for too long.

Constellations are just areas used by astronomers so they can tell where an object is. Like there's a nebula in Orion, so they section it off so they can say to each other 'hey look, there's something near that nebula in Orion", or whatever name they have for it. If you look at the constellations on acid they look more connected.

The southern hemisphere is also in directed towards the galactic center which is denser packed with stars. We look up and are only seeing the stars in one of the arms of the spiral we are in.

Some stars die and others are not in our site due to orbiting patterns. Tho we still look up at night when the sky is clear and no light around and see the same clarity that the ancients did. You have to be in the country for the most part.
The picture you posted is also picking up light we probably cannot see or is too faint for us to really tell. You can see the cosmic clouds obscuring some of the stars too.

Its the same sky man, its not different at all. Only the stars we see change.

Unless you're talking about the woods deep in heart of Siberia, you wont be able to just walk into the woods and experience no light pollution. There are almost no places on land where you could look up and experience the same sky the ancients did. Even in the most isolated parts of Chile, where a lot of work is done specifically to reduce light pollution. The places that would get about to that level would be in the most remote parts of the Saharha Desert, Siberia, Greenland, Antarctica, and possibly the middle of the Outback. Or you would have to go into the middle of the ocean.

No one has said this yet...? kinda skimmed the thread so I might have missed it but the stars we see past light pollution are some of the brightest stars.

Even in a sky full of stars they will still be the brightest stars. Or have unique characteristics as planets do. And all of astrology is based around these characteristics.

exactly isn't possible, stars have died in that time. I mean the difference wouldn't be huge, but there are slight differences that mean it can't be exactly the same sky... though tis a bit pedantic

It's the same. What peeps were seeing 1000 years ago, that's what we see today.

Yea they are the biggest load of hogwash I can think of. I literally laugh at that one tragically hip song where he claims he saw constellations in bobcagion cuz constellations are bullshit so either he was fucking nuts or it was just artistic lyrics or something. Sometimes you can look at the sky and not see a single star so what does that tell you huh?

It has not stopped changing.. The universe is in a constant state of changing since the beginning . So in that sense we are looking at the same sky still changing as it has  been for billions of years.

or we never see the same sky twice, which means we never see the same sky once, either is just as accurate imo

That in itself makes it the same. They viewed it changing and we view jt now. To me that is exactly the same. Its not the exact same stars but its the exact same state that we see it. In a state of evolution. Just like on earth, it happens so slow to notice but its constantly happening.

Or maybe we can, and do, see the same sky more than one, more than twice, either is true.

Every 25 000 years or something we orbit the galaxy so eventually we will see the same stars again with the exception of o es who have go s supernova and the lightfrom the star has already passed the earth without being detected. If we skymap now and then again when we reach the same place of orbit we will notice new stars, stars missing and so on.

I'd argue it's not exactly the same state, it's a dynamic system and as such it's state is ever changing, but it is always in a state of change, so in that respect there is a sameness...

though to be less pedantic, most of the stars we can see are identical to 1000 years ago and the biggest significant change is simply light pollution, in response to zzzz

as to the first constellation thing, you can make out some of them pretty clearly where I am, mainly the dipper
