Yeah nothing happened.

You underestimate the distances involved. That earthquake was unimaginably far away from us, down off the southern coast of guatemala. Imagine the entire continental US is between you and the earthquake. Over 3000+ miles. Maybe 5000km. Plus mexico is in the way.

Also LA is at 233 feet elevation.

Pretty sure LA starts at zero feet and goes up quite a bit higher than 233.

Hey if there has just been an 8.2 magnitude sea quake happened off the coast of Mexico and the National Tsunami Warning Centers networks issues a Tsunami warning for a densely populated part of the US its worth relaying immediately before looking into it yourself. Every second of delay, the potential tsunami advances.

Better safe than sorry.
