Re: Are foodstamps and welfare recipients really better off than a working individual? [Re: AmericanPsycho]

The food stamp program costs $70 billion a year. The home mortgage interest deduction costs $80 billion. Preferential tax rates for long term capital gain income vs. earned income costs the federal government $130 billion a year.

If we are truly concerned about tax payer funded entitlements handing out money, why do people immediately jump on the people who literally have the least, while ignoring the gratuitous entitlements that go to the wealthiest and least needy. Yet, without fail the right wingers bash the poor for needing help paying for food, while they are getting help paying for their mortgage and reducing the cost of their investments.

Nobody is against helping the poor.

Try to understand that first of all, conservatives generally believe in being charitable rather than forced redistributing of wealth by the government which is theft.

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.rt.com/document/100000000000001000193952/amp

And second of all we don't like how welfare incentivises single motherhood. Weather or not your parents stay together is a huge indicator of how successful you will be. There is a huge single motherhood epidemic, especially in the black community. The rate of single motherhood has drastically increased im the black community since the 70s and we are seeing the affects of that.

If people weren't given free money for having a child that has a much lower chance of success than the average person, then maybe they would actually commit to their significant other and create a healthy family with both a mother and father like nature intended, rather than depriving their children of a propper family and giving them a low chance of success.

Capitolism forces people to provide a good or service that other people find useful. Socialism forces people to make care of poorer people. It's like Ben Shapiro says in the above video "socialism is rape, capitalism is consensual sex."

It's not just that communism/Socialism don't work and wind up making people suffer, it's that capitalism is a virtuous system that says you own the fruits of your own labour, socialism is an immoral system that says you need to take care of me because you are privledged and I'm a victim.

Modern nation states are built on taxation it isn't theft since you get something out of it. Unless you live in the woods and don't use any modern infrastructure.

I am one of those disabled people. I'm on social assistance now, and if my wife wasn't working we would get about $2300/month - for myself, my wife, and our two kids. That is ok, about $28k a year, untaxable, but it is really the bare minimum that a family of 4 can live on. As is, my wife does have a nice job so I don't see most of that $2300/month - they take away over 3/4 of it, based on what my wife makes.

Before I was on disability, I had to first go on welfare and that was pretty shitty. I got like $600/month to live on.

So no, I don't think someone sitting on welfare has it better than someone working even a part time  job.

the people who arent on welfare arent getting anything out of it. they are losing money. I'm not talking about taxes for building roads and stuff like that, im talking about giving away money to some people. are you slow? if you arent on welfare then thats the equivalent of living in the woods and not using modern infrastructure in this case.

Jobs are not purely fiscal. If you could would you work an abusive job where you aren't appreciated and you are worked to your absolute physical and mental limit?

Alot of people say welfare is better because they're stuck in the shitholes of the country that have limited job opportunity and the jobs available are more than a little shitty and there's a decent chance you'll be robbed while working there.

My gf has been on disability. Not because she can't work any job but because it's impossible for her to work any of the jobs available in the area. There's not much. She could do computer work but there's not much and since there's not much they definitely won't take someone that lacks experience and college education.

It's not better to be on welfare. It is infinitely easier for people in shitty situations though. When you're stuck down in the muck at the bottom of the barrel it can be goddamn hard to pull yourself out. Especially when no one wants to give you a hand. We throw pills at mental problems, we throw money at environmental problems, we throw people into boxes. All in some hope that something good will come of it.

Reality is most people on welfare and food stamps don't necessarily need work, many of them do work, they need better work that works with them as an individual.

All of the programs, private and public, are severely strained right now by the elderly population. Many of whom lost their savings and/or their homes in the recession and are swimming in pools of debt.

Basically the benefit for everyone else is that poor people are less likely to start a peasant revolt or kill you for your wallet in a country where they receive at least some pittance to get by.

Some people fail to grasp the idea that here in the states you can work full time, never miss a day and still fall below the federal poverty line.

Its not about not working, it's about not making enough money.

so basically feed me or ill kill you? sounds like gangs who make people pay protection fees.

you are acting like the rich are keeping the poor people poor. the fact is that if you are permanently poor in the US then you have made irresponsible choices, unless you are disabled. it may be hard to hear but it is true. this culture of "i'm a victim, nothing I do matters because the system is rigged against me." is really, really bad for the west. we need to begin valuing hard work and independence again. the problem is its not going to be easy to convince people to give up free stuff so we just have to grow up and do it.

are drug/gambling addicts being kept down by rich people? they are choosing to spend all their money on drugs so they are poor. should they be on welfare? if they dont get welfare is it everyone else's fault and should they have an uprising?

i havent seen any malnourished children in north america, in fact ive seen evidence that shows that poor people are more likely to be over weight.

not saying you did but then why would they need to have an uprising if you agree that they arent being held down and could get out of their situation by making good choices?your scenario just doesnt add up unless the poor have no choice in the matter.

Overweight and starving to death.
Cheap food is often high calorie food. Empty calories often enough. Overweight does not equate to well food. In our convoluted post industrial society it can often mean the opposite.

There are not enough jobs for everyone. That's a simple fact.

If we didn't have welfare or a charity system that was up to dealing with it we would see children starving.

Whatever you want to call it, uprising or peasant revolt or whatever, there is a historical precedent for it happening.

People who survive flat out on government aid are pretty much on par with most paycheck to paycheck families... minus the actually working part of course. The ones who are really better off are the ones just gaming the system for food stamps and shit when in reality they could easily get by without it. I've seen plenty of people like that who drive around in nice cars and shit yet buy groceries with food stamps. They obviously lie on government aid applications to qualify yet somehow never get in trouble.

its a myth that poor people in the USA are forced to buy junk food because its all they can afford. in fact, junk food isnt even the cheapest option and poor people actually dont eat fast food more often than people in other economic groups.
