Anyone store specimens for cloning at a later date?
    #24352307 -

Folks,

Has anyone had success with this? I know ideally you'd want to have a fresh specimen to clone to agar but has this been done with success? How long is too long and how did you store them. I was planning on harvesting these tonight and letting the plates cool ovenight. Then cloning tomorrow afternoon. Maybe leave the cloning specimens on the sub until tomorrow?

I had failure leaving Agrocybe parasitica in the fridge for a week. Contam on every dish. Macroscopically they looked OK and felt firm. I initially blamed my sterile technique, but considering that I only had 25% contamination in the plates I did after those (on a different species with fresh specimens) I think my technique was actually acceptable.
If you have enough plates why not test it out- leave some on the substrate AND put some in the fridge to see there is any difference.

Harvest fruits and put them in a paper bag in the fridge. If you're gonna do this, you should twist and pull or something as to not leave the hollow stem open and prone to airborne contaminants.

i put em in a plastic bag in the fridge for a few days if i need to delay my work. i don't go more than a few days though. the fruit can mature inside the bag. its really just to buy a day or two.

A plastic bag is one of the worst things you can store a mushroom in.
