spore prints and storing shrooms in fridge
    #1068120 -

I read the tek about spore prints, I just cut off the cap as close to the gill as possible then place on wax paper. problem is, wont the shroom contam or rot in the 24 hours it takes to make a print? I could put it in a plastic bag and into the fridge or put it in a container and leave it in a cool place. I must take prints now since some of the caps opened a few hours ago! The cap is also torn in some places. 2nd when I store shrooms in the fridge, is it ok to store in plastic bag or must they be stored in a jar or paper bag? I dont have the means or desire to dry them while waiting for my other cakes to fruit.

About making prints, unless you have a hepa filter it is recommended that you place the cap on a piece of paper or foil, then place a bowl or cup on top of both the cap and the foil or paper. That will keep down air drafts and keep a semi-sterile environment.

About storing them in the fridge, if you plan on consuming them within a week or two, you should be fine, but any longer and you should dry them.

If you`re not interested in drying your shrooms then ultimatelly you will have a nice baggie of rotten mushrooms in your fridge.
Just leave the mush on your monitor it will dry fast.

"Shrooms44 now huh?"

password loss.

"24 Hours is not long enough for rotting to cause a problem. Just be as sterile as possible."

will do and I did read the faq!

they wont stay there longer than a week, but should they be in a plastic or paper bag? If my other cakes dont pin in 3 days im eating the shrooms in the fridge. If they pin within 3 days, itll be a few more days before they become mature shrooms then ill have about 40 grams to trip on. do shrooms lose potency in the fridge? not much of a choice anyhow. I could eat them now but 20 grams wont give me much more than a buzz all night and its a bad time really since I have a test tomorrow!

sounds good. I fear an improper drying would cause them to rot and besides I dont have a fan or epson salts. Ill just wrap them in paper towel and put into a paper bag and into the fridge. They wont be there more than a week anyway.
as for spore prints, how "open" must the cap be? totally flat or open like an umbrellia?

Do you have a shelf? Do you have a paper towel? Do you have air circulation? If so, you have the means to dry, no work on that damn desire.

He`s here Skikid , he`s just been busy.
He follows normal night and day hours now so he tends to be a bit busy during the day.
