storing spawnbags for future use - how long possible
    #3627250 - 01/14/05 05:20 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

say someone got a bag or two 100% colonised he wont need
in a month or even longwe - how would he store these bags?

a fridge would be the best option in my eyes,
given a fridge how long could one keep the bags till use?
are several months, talking 2 to 3 or even more possible?

will there be any serious downsides on storing the bags for
that time, or wont there be?

i know everyone should use spawn as 'fresh' as possible,
since its the most vital and 'energetic' but given the above
situation, will the long term store be possible?

you could freeze them... ive had frozen stuff work before.. this would last .. years??

putting them in the fridge should work for a few months.. just an estimate.

im sorry to re-vive this whole thing but i must ask to get this straight.

say i inoculate a rye jar today, and put it into the fridge for half a year,
then case it.

will the resulting casing produce worse than if i used the spawn directly?
from what my common sense tells me, it will do a weeeee bit worse but
just like, if you wanna put it that way, 5% less yield - in other words barely noticeable?

I've stored cultures on WBS for 4 months in the cellar, at about 50 degrees F. They fired right up when introduced to whatever, no noticeable loss in performance.

On another note, I just put away tons of spawn jars of Shaggy Mane, Cubensis, and Pink Oyster.  The plan is to try them all in a year, until then they will be stored in the cellar, w/ saran wrap covering the filter tops and no light getting in.

Just a little side experiment, I'm sure they will ALL fire right up with no issues whatsoever.  Pretty cool!  :mushroom2:
