What's the best tool for grinding mushrooms in to fine powder?
    #24319129 - 05/15/17 12:59 AM (5 years, 6 months ago)

I used to have a small Ninja blender that I wasn't satisfied with. It left several small stems and caps intact, but turned the rest to a fine powder that just stuck to the blade and plastic walls.

What's the best appliance to grind down to a fine powder with the least amount of spillage? Thanks!

I've been looking into using a ball mill but not sure how well that will work. I'll let you know after I try it.

My vote is the mortar and pestle.

Will the M&P and coffee grinder reduce to dust? End game is to encapsulate

Didn't know what a ball mill was until 30 seconds ago but they look badass. Do tell how that works out

Yes, a m&p will produce a fine powder, that is if your mushrooms are cracker dry. If you're not happy with the consistency, keep grinding. The material has no choice but to be ground down, while with a coffee grinder, there may be pieces floating around that never make contact with the blades.

Mortar and pestle have been used for medicines for a long time. Feels good to grind down an ounce of mushrooms in one.

I use a very sharp Japanese cooking knife yo slice them into small bits, then throw them into my hand held weed grinder. Pestle and mortar does seem more apropos.

I've used a weed grinder and coffee grinder. Go with the coffee grinder if you can. You get literally dust when you're done not just small pieces. It increases the strength of lemon tek and capsules.

My Nutribullet works amazingly (and is awesome for smoothies). It obliterates them into a very fine powder which I then stuff into capsules.

kinda off topic but does powder make tea taste less, like, ”mushroomy” than just cooking whole mushrooms into it?

Not from my experience but you can do tons of different things to mask the taste. Drink it while it's still fairly hot (just tastes like hot water), add honey, or brew real tea into it. I usually just drink it hot and that's enough for me to get it down. If you let it cool too much then it starts to get disgusting.
