Huge jack-o-lantern * 2

These were found in the woods behind my house growing at the base of a dying oak tree. Just thought it was cool because of the size.

Holy crap man! That things gigantic! I thought the ones growing in my yard were colossal that thing dwarfs all of mine...

Difference in these and the chantrelles are the false gills, correct? These look really close together and delicate but very close to some chants I found earlier this week (already eaten and delicious btw)

If you eat them and didn't get sick they aren't jack o lantern.

They aren't chanterelles. These guys have straight up gills and there are many jack o lanterns all throughout that forest. This is just a fucking huge patch.

That really is a fucking huge patch.....

And with regards to getting sick. Last year the Bedford winery had this mushroom festival I almost went. Someone accidentally mixed Jack o lanterns in with the chanterelles a got a bunch of people pretty sick...

I can't believe that shit happened lol Jack o lanterns. Until recently I knew of them but couldn't discern them. But I wouldn't have eaten chanterelles without someone properly IDing them for me.

Yes I know if I didn't get sick they were good (I have a chef buddy who picks and eats them frequently, so I had eyes on them before I ingested)
I am just wondering that the gills on these look really delicate and that's what different than say, this where you can visibly see the false gills. Does that make more sense?
