Habitat: Where does it grow? Cow / Horse pasture, 2195 M, Villa De Leyva, Boyaca, Colombia.
Gills: Color: Dark, attached, gills.
Stem: thick stem, well pronounced veil
Cap: large, golden shiny cap with that weird layer that you can peel off.
Spore print color: Give me a few hours to confirm.
Bruising: No bruising as of yet, but they were just picked moments ago. UPDATE - Yep they're bruising bluish purplish
There are a few types growing here I think...

Which was the pan antillarum you were referring to?

What is flaking off the cap of this one? A friend thought it might be an amanita? We don't really know. That's why we're here in Villa searching. I spent six months teaching here and never found squat. Now it seems everything is saying welcome back.

Veil remnants, not mycelium.

Finally found something to start a new culture up after a university student failed on 4 inoculation attempts on my only print in a lab. I'll be doing it in a glovebox thanks very much, can only blame myself afterwards.
Thanks guys! Always so charming this community. These guys aren't illegal here, but with the ever increasing influx of idiot tourists there should be some place where you can have the experience you want, without any added risk. There are a few more places close by to visit. luego! gracias!
