Cow dung poison
    #2379943 - 02/26/04 04:15 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, its like this. I live in the southern part of the panhandle of Texas. In my area there are pastures of cows all over the place. It is reaching the end of winter time and i'm am beginning too look for shrooms. I am told that a type of magic mushroom grows on cowdung. My question is this, are there any other species of mushroom that grow on cowdung that can be harmful to me or that serve no phycedelic purpose? If you have any pictures that may be helpful to me at all please include them, thankyou for your time.

Yes there are more than just psychadelic mushrooms that grow on dung , 1 being Panaoleus Antillarum , it is not poisonous but the taste of it is not worth eating. It usually has a very thin stem , and is white

Yes, there are a few mushrooms that grow from dung rather than active mushrooms.

Most of the Panaeolus genus will grow in dung. Many are not active.

Rule of thumb is that you should definetly get them ID'ed here before consuming any. Also, the two most common you will be finding is Psilocybe cubensis and Copelandia (Panaeolus) cyanescens. They will both bruise blue on the stems while handling.

Do some research on those two species listed above and try to find 'em
