I moved this from OTD, because it got burried too fast over there. I also, thought it would be nice to have a climbing thread in the Pub...

Here?s a picture from that Yosemite trip about 10 years ago.

That?s me bringing up the rear on the second pitch, of three pitches, of one of those old, really run-out, Warren Harding bolted routes from the early-sixties. I think it was 5.10d.

This is one of our local areas we used to climb at a lot. We had lots of quality basalt where I used to live. We also had a good sandstone quary, and some fair granite -- all within a few minutes from town. It was nice.

This is my old climbing partner leading a 5.9+ off-width crack with natural pro.

There were literally hundreds of quality routes on those basalt cliffs. My partner wrote the guidebook for that area, and I did all the layout and typsetting on it. It was a year-long project, but it kept me in beer money for about 10 years, after we did it.

Awesome pics. How long is that Yosemite route?

*sigh*

For comparison, these are all within a few minutes from where I live:

?

edit: Oh, and thanks for moving this to keep it alive

now I'm jealous again...
I wish we had at least some rocks in The Netherlands. The best we have here are indoor climbing halls.

Does anybody have info on climbing in Ireland? I plan to visit a friend in may, should I take my climbing rack with me?

Yes theres a few good spots in Ireland, much
of its coastal, short climbs. I have an old
mag with a write up tour of irish climbs, I'll
try to find it and get back to you.

Nothing real high, but some good hill walking in
the south as well

(I  had wondered were this thread went ).

Great! We'll be in the Southwestern part of Ireland for most of the time. We'll go hiking for a couple of days in any case, and possibly climbing too. Any info you have on the routes would be a big help.

(Damn I was gonna post some pics of the climbing spots in Helsinki for BoO, but I'm still at my upload limit. 4 more hours...)
