Go to http://www.etree.org/software.html and download ShnAmp. It'll allow you to play shn files with WinAmp. Or download mkwACT, which will allow you to make shns into wav files. Or just download mp3s at gdlive.

Check out FurthurNet (www.furthurnet.com) . It's a LEGAL peer-to-peer file sharing app which only shares shows by bands who have open taping & trading policies. Some shows are mp3, many more are SHN (shorten) format, as that seems to be the new prefered format of online traders. They have a pretty tight litle community on their forums, too.... always people ready to help newbs start a collection. They have an insane amount of Dead shared, and there are a number of forum threads where people have been recommending "must-have" Dead shows.
