Peruvian torch questions

1. dry vs. wet, does it make much of a diffrence?

2. if i must dry, should i just throw it in a dark closet for a week or two, or just heat dry it for a couple hours?

3. ok, so i've got the spines off, what about the skin? is it safe to eat? will it kill me/fuck up my insides? I ask 'cause i'm trying not to loose any of the fleshy parts.

4. my plan is to throw it into a blender with some mountain dew, than drink it all including the mush, is this a bad idea? mt. dew is great getting around the nasty taste, me thinks.

as you can tell, i'm really new to cactus, so forgive my stupid questions.

all right
first, you WONT be able to drink cacti dew, you need like grapefruit AND cranberry juice as chasers. The best non extracion method to prep them IMHO is to blender with a lil bit of lemmon juice and 1L water, boil this blended mix for 2-4 hours, strain through cloth, take this liquid and boil its volume down to approx 8-12 OZ, slam it and then drink like a gallon of grapefruit juice followed by a gallon of cranberry juice to get the taste out of your mouth. well thats exagerateing. :thumbup: :nut:

It would be effective, but thats an awefull lot of material to be filling your guts with. Id boil it down at the very least. :wink:

Mountain Dew will by no means mask the flavor of peruvian torch cactus.

MJShroomer wrote up a good TEK for preparing cactus. Look it up.

I personally do a half-assed extraction and just eat the sludge that I end up with. It is usually just one tablespoon full of nasty tasting tar-like syrup. By half-assed, I mean that I just do a simple alcohol extraction, starting with powdered, dried peruvian torch, and evaporate off the alcohol. Do this ONLY if you are using grain alcohol used for drinking. It leaves no dangerous residues behind. Other solvents would be extremely dangerous to do this with.
