Personal Beliefs: Do you believe in any "sins?"
    #23328150 -

Regardless of whether you are religious or not... I'm sure each of us has our own personal concepts of what constitutes a "sin."

Aside from murder and rape and child abuse and torture and shit obviously, because those should just be universal sins that we all unanimously believe in.

I obviously don't believe in a lot of the traditional sins that religion speaks against... I don't believe it's sinful or necessarily bad to sleep around, engage in premarital or homosexual sex, have tattoos, or those kind of things.

There is one sin that I absolutely do believe in though, and that is wasting food. If there ever was a sin, I believe that wasting food would be #1 on my list.

How about for you guys?

Easy way to get around this, throw it in the ground and call it composting!

Yes, there are sins an yes the devil will remind when you go to hell. What is hell though is another question entirely but I'm sure it has to do with karma and life choices n shiet.

Or you could put it in a box and throw it in the fridge and eat it later? That's what I always do, even if it's for a couple bites of food. I mean, unless the food is really horrible tasting and not edible, or expired or something, there is no reason to toss it out.

For expired or rotten food though, composting it is a good alternative.

the base of spirituality or at least the truth that I have come to is it is a guiding path for how to live a life where our actions aka karma cause the least suffering for ourselves as individuals and the world at large. I make a conscious effort now to live in a way that leads to true happiness, non-suffering, inner peace and equanimity.

the most ironic part about religion is at the core of most of the teachings is not to kill, yet great massacres have occurred and still are occurring solely to attachment to religious beliefs and intolerance of others beliefs.

I don't know much about sins, but I do know the precepts of buddhism are abstaining from:
killing
lieing
stealing
cheating
substances that make one cloudly and careless

I believe in vice and ignorance, suffering and craving.
The usual connotation of "sin" from an American perspective wouldn't fit my idea of the concept.

I dont really believe anything is a "sin" in the biblical sense, I think right and wrong is really just a figment of the mind

I think we all have a sense of right and wrong...some is learned behavior and I think some we are born with. There is something deep inside me that knows it is wrong to willfully hurt another human being purposely. I may justify this with whatever excuse would fit the act....but, deep down that uneasy feeling from knowing it was wrong will not go away.

Those kinds of behaviors that trigger that deep down ache in the soul are what I would call a sin.

I think gay stuff might bother the psychedelic gods a tiny bit, like shiva and other hindu gods. But I think the only real sin is rape/murder/theft but it can be forgiven (unless its like multiple murders or something).

I am a universalist based on Kant's formulation of the categorical imperative. A lot of people mistake my moral certitude for dogma or zealotry, but it's actually just consistency. Most people these days adhere to moral relativism, which I abhor for its weakness. Most people have no idea what a simple matter it is to develop your own moral code that has the declarative authority of a religion without depending on hocus pocus sky gods or violence to validate it.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
