Their study, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, found ketamine restores to normal the orbifrontal cortex, an area of the brain located above the eyes that is overactive in depressed people.

The area is believed to be responsible for feelings of guilt, dread, apprehension and physical reactions such as a racing heart, said Bill Deakin, who led the study.

"The study results have given us a completely novel way of treating depression and a new avenue of understanding depression," said Deakin, a neuroscientist at the University of

...this seems like a bad idea to me.

I think using ketamine to treat depression would just lead to ketamine addiction.

I mean -- I love K. Really. But giving an prescription to a depressed person...wouldn't really solve anything, they'd just forget about their problems for 30 minutes, and then do another bump.

Ketamine has brought me out of many a slumps and saved me from the brink of suicide due to chronic pain more than a few times. But it's so easily abused that I don't even like to talk about it. Once a month it's great medicence, any more than that is just wasteful IME.

They are not talking about using it like an antidepressant, they are saying that a single dose of Ketamine could cure a person's depression for a month or so depending on severity, etc.

That's the awesome thing about ketamine though. A tiny bit goes a long way.

Other ketamine treatments used now are usually only used ONCE in a large dose. It reboots the brain. I don't imagine you'd have to keep taking it like conventional anti depressants. It works in a completely different way on the brain.

This isn't really news, it's been used to "treat" clinical depression for some time now.

K has definitely motivated me to be a more thoughtful, intuitive person...moreso than weed even.

Ketamine and acid though. THAT'S where it's it! :lol:

I think it's great that this topic is being discussed on this site and that the word the being spread. I work at a ketamine clinic in Los Angeles that provides Ketamine infusions for depressed and pain patients.
