Everybody has access to enough downers to kill themselves. Just buy a bunch of liquor and sleeping pills. Nobody ever "has to kill themselves right now", pretty sure the vast majority of suicides are pretty premeditated.

Well I suppose I could take this fork, ram it through my jugular and bleed out but that doesn't sound very fun to me

I would use whatever gas Walter used at the end of breaking bad.

Pretty much any type of gas that would kill you instantly without much suffering.

Those railings are about 4 feet.  Above pretty much anyone's center of gravity.  It would be difficult to accidentally fall overboard in normal circumstances.  However, during a storm it would be easy if you were stupid enough to venture outside to the wrong part of the ship.  When I worked on the cruiselines we would crack open the door to a deck on the bow to smoke, and during a storm the waves would fly straight up and pound the deck and then gush back overboard.  Someone could easily get washed overboard.  But passengers aren't allowed out there during the storms.  Maybe she went someplace she wasn't supposed to go.

You're chances of suriving a fall from a cruise ship are almost nil. Even if someone sees you fall, keeping track of a person in the middle of the ocean, from a height like that of a cruise ship is incredibly, incredibly difficult - the most likely case of survival would be someone seeing you fall, having eyes on you, throwing you a life jacket/floating device and having someone continually track you by sight until the ship could send out a boat to get you and that is so incredibly unlikely to begin with.

Seeing someone fall and having a general idea of where they fell and hoping they spring up somewhere in the many thousand square miles the coast guard has identified they could possibly be in is even less likely.

and if you go over and no one see's it, adios.

this is all provided you survive the fall itself.

I hope for her sake it was over fast. Treading water in open ocean without fins or life vests or any bouyancy device is extremely extremely tiring, and if it's choppy then you're fucked - I'd give it a half hour of treading, tops before you drown from exhaustion.

Are there any actual cases of people falling from cruise ships without being immediately rescued(even that?)and being found alive ? genuinely curious about that. that is defying death to an extreme. there are few situations where your fate is signed, sealed and delivered in the way that being tossed in the open ocean without any bouyancy assistance (from a 100 ft deck of a vessel with all sorts of spinny metal things you can incur blunt force trauma from).

My thoughts exactly.  I think being alone in the middle of the ocean would be the worst possible circumstance possible.  A slow and scary death,,,, you will go by sharks or drowning.

Yeah it would be freaking terrifying, obviously. I mean assuming the fall is survived, sitting there and floating in the vastness of the ocean in near pitch black conditions for however long...and even if it was suicide -- who's to say she didn't have second thoughts sitting out there in the middle of the ocean as she waited to die?

Ugh man, that would be horrific.

Bitch don't know how to swim? Or I guess falling 30+ stories into water thats literally like concrete. Bitch is dead as fuck.

I know how to swim like a boss as my mom just tossed me into water. Sink or swim. Just like with a car. Crash or go.

Bummer.

Last cruise-ship I went on was so boring I wanted to collect bets to jump off the top and use the money to adventure my way home. Was a <10 mile swim to land during sections.

Last time I heard, like 6 hours ago, the coast guard was still searching for her

I'm no expert on shit like this but I'd imagine that it's about a 100% certainty that she's long gone at this point

Lots of dolphin stories rescuing people and holding them above water in that area too.  And the gulf isn't too cold as far as oceans go as far as I remember.  Hopefully you can float on your back after a while and just try to use as little energy as possible.

More like wait for helicopters.  If you aren't close to land at all that you know of, what else can you do but use as little energy as possible?

im actually not even sure floating on your back is a viable option in the ocean.  it works in swimming pools but i think there's too many waves in the ocean, plus all the water rushing over your face.  If your a women your vagina will act like an extra air blatter like on a submarine to keep it afloat, but if you float on your back it will fill up with water and sink her

lol  it doesn't work that way - I've never heard of dolphins holding people afloat, I've heard some people say they 'protect you from sharks' which is incredibly funny, because is there are dolphins around then there's a solid chance there's a shark or three right there with them if you're in the gulf, eating the same baitfish that's drawing the dolphins - though it's way more likely that you'll drown or die of exposure if you're floating out there before getting attacked.

Floating on your back in the ocean for any period of time only works with buoyancy devices, you're treading otherwise. Idk if you have ever treaded water for more than 15 minutes, if you're not in good shape it's very tiring, and that goes double with being in the ocean -  There are currents, the ocean can be rough, if there was even moderate chop then you've got to fight to keep your head above it. The whole game changes in open water, scuba divers have gotten stranded out there(a la "open water"), and when you come up from a dive you've got an inflateable/deflateable vest, a westsuit or skin to keep you protected and warm, enough reserve air(you never let yourself get under a certain amount before surfacing) for a small while - and a snorkel/mask/fins, so if it gets choppy you can breath much easier and stay afloat. Even with all of that, the current carries you wherever it wants, and you're fucked if you end up stranded. This poor lady's fate is honestly pretty much signed sealed and delivered.

From the cruises I've been on the rails are pretty high from what I remember but I guess it's possible to fall over by accident but I doubt it...
