Cruise Ship
    #5324851 - 02/21/06 05:15 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Tomorrow morning I'm going to an interview for a cruise ship job. I don't know how I feel about this. I think it would be a really cool & different experience to be at sea for a few months and get paid doing it; but at the same time, I'm sure there are some nasty drawbacks to working on a cruise. No escape from work, or retarded co-workers, no drugs [unless I manage to find a giant bottle of opiates before I would leave], etc etc.

Anybody got any thoughts?

I'd either be a waiter or part of the housekeeping staff. I've never done hotel cleaning staff work, or anything like it.. but that might be kinda fun. HOUSEKEEPIINGG! HOUSEKEEEEPINNG! OPEN UP!

So yeah, the cruise pretty much just goes down the pacific coast, from what I can tell. From Washington to Hawaii.

ps - on a completely unrelated note, I just stood up and walked to the bathroom.. once I got there, I noticed my legs were falling asleep. I nearly fell over in front of the toilet. :smile2:

Expect to be broke and in shitty living conditions unless you're an officer...which you won't be...but you'll meet alot of cool people though, and see some awesome places. Good Luck!

The pay didn't seem that bad. Roughly $10/hr. That's what I usually make at my land-based jobs, so meh.

But having nothing to spend my money on for a few months wouldn't be bad. And I already live in shitty conditions. It's like a dorm room / tilted shack. Free rent. Which I'd also be enjoying on the cruise.

thanks for your advice, rono.

I'll get back to you tomorrow on that one. I'm actually not sure of their name yet. I only know the name of the person I've talked to, and she seems nice.

Maybe I will actually make it down to Hawaii for a visit, jay. =]

Cruises are great fun. I did some wild shit in the Caribbean and in the middle of the ocean.

I bet working on one wouldn't be bad. What kind of job would it be? Not some shitty service job? Casino, desks or something?

Do they charge you for room and board?

jay... the company is Norwegian Cruise Line.

I'd be a cook in one of the restaurants.

And no, they definitely don't charge for room & board. I'd be working 70 hours a week, with virtually no outlet to spend my money - except when I go wandering around on the Hawaiian islands. =D

I have a phone interview pretty soon.

Check out this fucking boat. I don't know if they're all this nice (I doubt so), but maaaan. Just go look.

Do it, what do you have to lose really?  Make some good money, bang some hottie waitresses, get hepatitus C and food poisoning, get stranded on the open sea, sounds like a blast. :smirk:
