But 1997 was kinda a shitty year for movies in general.  Titanic's main competition at the oscars was As Good As It Gets.

Leo wasn't even nominated though. 

Man, I hated Titanic when I saw it.  I was 16, and went with my gf, her sister, and her best friend.  Just surrounded by crying broads and boyfriends who looked like they wanted to die.  In that theater for 3 hours.  I haven't watched it since, but I'd probably appreciate it more nowadays.  Supposedly it's very historically accurate.  But back then, 'Blade' was my idea of quality cinema, lol.

I was way younger than that when it came out. When I watched the first time the only thing I could appreciate were Kate Winslets boobs.

But watching it recently proved to me that leo was extremely underrated for his role, and Cameron well deserved best directing for it. There were some advanced cinematography concepts that went into shooting that film, and he kind of nailed it. The characters weren't all that developed though which kind of hurt the overall potential.

James Cameron, in spite of all his megalomaniac Hollywood self-importance, is a top notch director.  It's been nearly 20 years, I should give it another shot.  Whether or not his performance was amazing in Titanic, Leo has definitely been one of the consistently greatest actors in the world for a long time.  I'm also really stoked to finally see The Revenant, which is now available to rent.  (I have a baby & it's difficult to get out to the theater these days.)

Make it a theater experience when you watch it, you really need to engulf yourself in the experience or it could be a little lack-luster.

Definitely give Titanic another go, you'll agree with me I'm sure.
