Re: Radical Diet Change [Re: Moonshoe]
    #22887830 -

I didn't read through the thread but I have recently begun to radically change my diet too.

I never really payed much attention to diet  because so no matter how much I ate, I always managed to stay slim due to having a fast metabolism.

I've recently realized that eating unhealthy foods is not only harmful physically but also mentally. I'm way more conscientious about what I eat because I realize how much of a negative impact junk food has on my mood, alertness, motivation, general sense of well being, etc.

Every morning I eat a banana or an apple along with scrambled eggs and freshly squeezed orange/grapefruit juice. Skipping breakfast is one of the worst mistakes to make. Throughout the day, I eat fruits, pumpkin seeds, almonds, and walnuts. I never drink soda or eat fast food anymore. It's quite amazing how if you stop eating fast food or drinking coke for a month, your body cleanses itself and then you truly realize how disgusting all that crap actually is.

If I eat well, sleep well, and do a little bit of exercise, even if it's in my own room, I feel SO much better about everything. I can literally feel my brain rewarding me with dopamine.

eating healthy is pretty easy
breakfast: fruit and spinach, some eggs, and some tea/water. If you want , you could get some extra oatmeal, yogurt, toast etc.
Lunch: sprouted grain bread, some sort of sandwhich. Maybe some rice, salmon, avacado, veggies
Dinner: same as lunch

Snacks; nuts

You could build a pretty healthy diet with just whole sprouted grains, meat, veggies, fruits. Thats pretty straightforward

Yeah, can't live on fast food and beer for long, takes it toll. Taking Spurlocks Doc and adding beer to it.

Basically we're all eating this toxic plant family without realizing that they impact our health and absorption of other vital nutrients. The fact is they produce toxic chemicals that our bodies have adapted to only tolerate when the foods are cooked or fully ripe, and even then they are borderline toxic.

So then you can still eat baked potatoes....

And just because some parts of some nightshades are toxic does not mean all parts of all nightshades are toxic. I have a hard time believing that the fruit known as tomatoe contains any of those toxins.

Nope. Do some research. They are all toxic at all times, just more so at other times.

Eating a vegan/game meat diet isn't going to get rid of soreness throughout your body.

That shit just starts to happen when you get older.

Eliminating dairy and processed sugar is a great idea, but it's probably not gonna do much for your soreness.

Take some glucosamine and SAM-e if you can afford it.

I am going completely grain free as of today. My only starches will be sweet potatoes and legumes......

You can have the 10 lbs that I'm trying to lose! :tongue2:

hey this is random and I don't know if it helps. But a few in my family have diabetes. Its pretty big in my family. But regardless, my brother (who just so happens to be pre-diabetic) has tried having apple cider vingear before each meal. This supposedly reduces the blood sugar spike. Even if you eat ribeye and collard greens, the protein gives some level of insulin spike

Obviously, take care to have a well-rounded diet, and stay low carb if that works. But its about 4$ for a bottle of acv. His blood parameters and blood sugar spikes have been getting much better. There is tons of testimonies in the reviews on amazon for apple cider vinegar and its effect on blood sugar. I have been taking it daily myself and my already healthy blood test 3 months ago has gotten better. I also feel more energetic. The 2 members in my family who have diabetes and tried it reported a decrease in diabetes/pre diabetes symptoms

It applies more to yogabunny. But moonshoe as well I guess. Its a great all around supplement and I plan on taking it thrice daily for life. Significantly increased my vitality and health. Diabetes or not. But its $4 for a bottle and $10 for a bottle in capsule form. I strongly suggest you give it a try

How much ACV do you use? I tried taking a couple tablespoons once or twice a day for a couple weeks a few months ago but it mades my skin dry out and take on a really pale tone

I use about 8 tablespoons 5 times a day. 40 tablespoons total

This is way higher than reccomended. But I do everything in extremes. and I just want to see how far the positive effects go before I notice any negative effects

the reccomended is 2-3 tablespoons 3 times a day. 9 tablespoons total

It is not nesscary to do it the way I did. But I doubt there's any side effects. Its literally vinegar

Like I said, I would reccomend the capsules cause I am a college student. I can't walk around with a bottle. plus, it stinks up the place. It tastes like shit and makes me cringe and gag the first 20 times I did it

I notice increased energy, stronger immunity, and better focus/mood. but weight lifitng recovery. I will go back to taking 12 tablespoons in the morning probably (in capsule form) so that I don't have to dose throughout the day and can just get it over with

I actually seem to get a weaker immune system everytime I start taking it. Mild ear infections, colds, etc. Could be coincidence but something immune-related happens everytime I start taking it for any length of time.

thats literally the exact opposite of my experience. It would be like someone telling me that smoking weed made them feel clear headed and intelligent

thats incredibly strange.  Different things work for different people. I would try it once or twice more. But our bodies are all different

I've been doing the acv as I described a couple times a day since Friday. My fasting blood sugar is down to 88 AND I even had beans with my dinner last night. Other than that though, I've been steering pretty clear of starches. It'll be nice if the acv concoction will allow me to incorporate a little bit of oatmeal and sweet potatoes every now & again!!

Sam Harris did say his cholesterol got worse after going Vegan
Grains are terrible. We cultivated them to keep a huge population fed, not because if was healthy.
vegan low fat types are the worst.

Milk has carbs, which is bad. Dairy is alot better then frames. Why anyone eats grain, I don't know. Childhood biological conditioning I suppose. I remember being unable to stop eating PB cups. So addicted

Yeah, you are smart. In fact, I actually told someone you are smart IRL. Was a while ago, about something you posted.

Cruelty free is hard to do.
Your principles are great
I just very lightly cooked a portabella, brocolli, kale, then cooked some eggs, melted cheese on the veggies and mixed it up
Was fucking great
Also, lemmon and pepper
Shouldn't have eaten so much of the cheese before cooking

So nice you didn't buy into the Caldwell, esselstein, McDougle, Ornish garbage.

look at it this way. The larger likelihood is that after we die, we either just stop existing completely (there is no soul, and the conciousness we experience is a product of the human brain). If that isn't the case, something along the lines of reincarnation/rebirth is true. Either of these situations result in this human life we experience being precious. You only get one

And if it takes a life of another animal to have a productive human life, then so be it. If you feel eating meat makes you more energetic, it is justified. Just go for ethically sourced meat. For your health and as well as for the animals. Its not really expensive so don't give me that BS excuse. Weston A Price foundation has links and sites dedicated to making buying ethical meat very easy and cheap. cheaper than meat at your store

good for you!
Try and stick to the brand "braggs". It contains the most chemicals that make ACV beneficial

In addition, I would say feel free to have a small serving of beans or a banana post workout. It won't kill you, and post workout carbs/starch within reason is helpful. Good for you though. Hopefully you will be back to normal blood sugar within due time

I've heard post workout carbs are not really helpful, but Im not sure.
Really, unless you are in desperate need of energy,as our ancestors would be(why finding suger was beneficial and was selected for), I don't see why anyone would need a low nutrient high carb food except for enjoyment(sandwitch)
Too bad bread smells so damn good. Defenately annoying

it works for diff people. But sometimes I do 1 hour of wokrout after 1 hour of yoga. wieghts and yoga back to back. And I typically dont feel right until I get some carb in me.

if you feel fine then do it. Like I feel the same about training fasted. You have all the bros with their noses in the textbook. I just feel better lifting fasted. Do what works

Well, most everyone is adapted to wanting suger. Bananas are defenately that. I defenately still crave them sometimes

Sometimes training fasted is great, if you don't overdo it. People have different goals. Vegans tend to be in the power lifting, or long distance endurance thing it seems. Makes me curious why they, in general, don't excel at other things. If it was as healthy as they say, then professionals would addopt it.

I dunno, nutrition is still alot of not science

I really hate this 'bro' thing. Calling Joe Rogan a 'bro'. It's just a way to disperse others who work out by twinks mostly

well to be completely honest, the fitness subculture/subcommunity is honestly the dumbest place on the internet I have ever been. The myths and broscience is prevelant, and people only see "one-way". It has perverted the way that people see health and fitness. and it causes a lot of male insecurity/body issues. Female issues too, but I notice the male mental issues more cause I am a male.

When in history has health and fitness relied at all on how much metal you can push in a straight line of motion?

I am not saying lifting wieghts makes you a dumbass, but most of the people in that community are straight stupid. I rarely just call people stupid like that but its true. People in that community are ignorant to any ideas of diet, nutrition, sport beyond their own. and in a lot of ways the meat head stereotype is proven to be true by my experience

I don't see nearly that much close mindedness and in any other community. I have friends in family who are pretty serious yoga instructors, football coaches, etc. and they are all wayyyyy more well rounded in their outlooks on the human body

anyways, I will just tie this all together; see what works for you. Different diets work for different people. Don't speak down on different methods. Just focus on yourself and your own experience. It aint that complex. The reason I am so passionate about the fitness community/industry is because I have had a lot of bad experiences with body image/supplements/poor advice etc.

Hey moonshoe. I noticed some of your goals were lean gains.  I commend you.  Burn fat, while gaining muscle

I do a lot of the stuff you talk about. I eat high protein, high fat and low carb. Carbs are important.  We just don't need refined carbs.  You really don't need any of those grains in your life, imho

But good carbs like yams, turnips and sweet potatoes are killer

I also intermittent fast but that's a whole new subject

www.leangains.com ; a great site/blog by a Swedish nutritionist

He's a beast!

In less than a year, i was able to successfully put on 15lbs and went from a 36" waist Jean size to a 30"

So your plans are well founded and I think you will have great success!

I wish you luck on your fitness and nutrition journey. I look forward to checking up on your progress!
