CSU-LA Professor Threatens to Fight Students who Invited Ben Shapiro to Speak on Campus
    #22826770 -

http://www.dailywire.com/news/2846/csu-la-professor-threatens-fight-students-who-ben-shapiro

"Ben Shapiro is scheduled to speak at California State University at Los Angeles on February 25- and leftist students and faculty are fighting mad about it. So mad that they've deemed his speech "a right wing attack" "unsafe" and "a hostile event" before it even happens- and one professor is challenging the "white supremacists" from the local Young America's Foundation who organized the event to fight him"

Here's Shapiro at the University of Missouri, people may disagree with what he says, but he's very articulate and well spoken, he is NOT a racist or bigot.  What is the left so afraid of?  The truth.  So much for the concept of "cultural diversity" from the liberals, it's their way or the highway.

First, what a mudslinging shit fest of an article that is. Then I'd like to point out that no one is threatening real violence, it's really an open invitation for any of the above posters who were being verbally threatening to join a sanctioned fight, very big difference in intent. I think it's dumb but I also recognize a difference in the actual intent than the threat of violent attack your article frames it as.

I actually think Shapiro is a bigot and p ignorant, parroting old standpoints with a 2010's wrapper, if the university is public then I'd fully support a non-invasive protest here. I think it not only allows for free speech for all but is the smarter strategic move here.

I guess tho you guys can talk for me, y'all seem to have it pretty figured out.

I am a pretty decent marksman and I'm sure professor is deathly afraid of guns.  How about I challenge him to a Hamilton/Burr type duel?

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.  Like this liberal cunt.

your analogy fails to present situational equality. meaning that a boxing round is surely different than a gun duel, which also isn't as legal either. It is entirely different then what the over reaction represents.

I'd agree w your opinion of physical violence and agree that no one should be blocking the press.

It just goes to show, a person with a non-PC position is actually hated on college campuses today, what are they so afraid of when he comes to speak?

"think Shapiro is a bigot"

No one really cares, I think Obama is a bigot, but that doesn't mean I think we should censor his words.  Let Shapiro talk and then debate him on his ideas, unless they think he is correct in calling out the obvious hypocrisy of the PC movement!

I agree that no one really cares, I agree that even being a bigot he shouldn't be censored. We depart tho where you accuse anyone disagreeing is only mad because "they know they're wrong". This is just and underhanded verbal jab against those you don't agree with in a thread you started that hinges on respecting the free speech of others.

I assume you'd be dismissive and argumentative about the students reasoning if I were to speculate; as if anything outside of their own human experience held any weight into said reasoning. Would you be angry if the students were to letter anti-shapiro leaflets outside the event?

It's also important to note all the "evidence" in this article is screen shots of social media. Meaning these are all personal opinions displayed in a space where free speech should be respected. So again I find myself at an axis of the issue being one side demanding respect for their free speech while ridiculing those on the other for exercising the same?

I really don't think a different perspective from which these students are usually exposed to on some issues is hostile, college used to be a place where students were exposed to many different ideas, not just one line of reasoning.

Shapiro does challenge the PC movement that these students believe in so dearly, so running away from the challenge and screaming "racism" and "bigotry" is beyond immature and shows the lack of conviction in their shaky beliefs.

Unless you whole heartedly disagree with his stances and in which point some feel a civic responsibility to speak up, specifically when race is involved. I understand that you disagree with the students and I would agree that pluralism is the best approach to forming your own ideas, however, I find it incredibly hypocritical to demean others for using their respective free speech tools while at the same time demanding it for those you agree with. which is the entire point of this "article" and thread.

The students are using their free speech to try to censor Shapiro's!!

I don't care that they are saying Shapiro is wrong or even a bigot, but don't try to stop him from speaking on campus like they're trying to do, can you see the difference?

For a bunch of "open-minded" free spirits, they sure seem to quickly try and shut down ideas they deem offensive.

While I certainly don't agree with much of what Mr. Shapiro says, I certainly don't want to see him censored or silenced. At the end of the day, he's still an American with all the rights therein bestowed.

Do you not agree that the students have the right to freedom in speech to say how they feel about, or even petition if they deem necessary, individuals speaking at the school they attend and fund?

It seems like you want the students to exercise their free speech to censor a second party free speech rights, that's ethically and morally wrong.

Do they have the right to protest and petition?  Yes, but if you can't see the massive hypocrisy to that line of reasoning you're no intellectually advanced than those immature students.

Shapiro is harmless, he's a Jewish 32 year old man who's highly educated and very articulate. Hell, he's not much older then the students themselves.

You do realize that trying to stop him from speaking only confirms his past arguments on the insane PC movement on college campuses?

I realize that it may make sense to you or others that hold your opinions but that doesn't necessitate the same for other's. Others may feel stronger about what he's saying being a personal antagonist. You're entitled to hold an opinion and to use the tools available to spread them, but so is everyone else. This argument that you shouldn't speak out/petition about a speaker you're unhappy with your organization giving the podium is really stifling to free speech in general (especially in the debasing manner demonstrated in that "article"). I see a confirmation bias and a failure to recognize the two way road you're on here,

Quote:
It seems like you want the students to exercise their free speech to censor a second party free speech rights

and as I alluded above it seems you're pushing for the opposite; "you want the students to censor themselves to allow a second party complete and unadulterated free speech"

You're right I want the students to exercise their speech, I want them to protest shapiro but, (as I've supported the whole of this thread) I want the shapiro supporters to use the same tools. I want the university to accept both petitions and allow the students to choose for themselves.

Sounds like you are trying to find an excuse for that professor's violent behavior.  According to you, if a man jumps out at me from behind a bush and tries to rape me, he is just offering "an open invitation for surprise sex".  You liberals really engage in some pretty remarkable mental gymnastics to convince yourselves that you are not thugs.

Just admit that what that professor did was violent and barbaric.  You will sound like less of an apologist for uncivilized behavior this way.

If a "cultural diversity or feminist" speaker was coming on to campuses, I wouldn't suggest anyone try to STOP them from delivering their message. Let's be honest, if a group of people tried to do that on campuses today, it would have serious negative ramifications.

I would suggest to them to protest their ideas and not censor their speech.

You're trying to defend a typical liberal tactic, if they don't agree with someone's speech then it shouldn't be allowed, Shapiro scares the shit out of them because he calls them out on bullshit like this, truly pathetic.

See and again you're sticking with your confirmation bias and pretending that there's a difference when one sides uses tools of speech vs. the other. What is shapiro's point when he speaks? To censor those opinions (white privilege and the like) he doesn't like and to fixate his own as correct. My stance is supporting students, or anyone, to use all available routes of speech to stand against anything they don't like.

You've gotten over your head as this conversation has gone past what shapiro or the students are representing and really puts you on blast for not valuing the free speech of others you disagree with.
