I need help buying a nitro RC truck

I have never bought one before but I all of the sudden want one.

I want a good one without spending a shit ton.

Any suggestions?

I don't know if I feel qualifed to answer this question since I haven't built or raced RC cars in many years and im sure the market has changed, but back in the day tokyo marui use to make some really great stuff all the way from RC cars/Airsoft guns.

Is there a reason you want nitro? For the money you can get alot nicer of a car in your price range if you stay electric. Alot easier upkeep too.

I prefer nitro over a electric myself.

I went cheap and got one from eBay. Well, it works but it overheats really quickly, which sucks ass.

If you get one, go for one off Tower Hobbies. They have better quality nitro trucks and they dont overheat.

You want to spend around $300 (with cheap radio) for a decent nitro truck. $200 for everything sounds like a good deal, but really, you wanna aim for $300.

Its an expensive hobby, but hey, even growing shrooms can get expensive :shrug:

My overheats after like 10min then takes 20min to cool. Not cool :nonono:

My friend bought a nitro TRAXXAS a long time ago.  It worked and was really cool and fun.  You will eventually need to tinker with it because things get damaged and need to be tuned up.  It's fun though if you like It, but can also be frustrating if it constantly breaks down.



I got an RC quadcopter for Christmas!  Haven't been into RC lately but it's actually really cool and impressive.  Having lots of fun leaning to fly it, the controls are actually  really good.  Me and my girlfriend were thinking of getting into RC.  we want to get a couple RC 4x4 trucks, thinking of going electric though because low maintenance and batteries these days are good.

Cool. I wanna get a 3D helicopter someday. Do crazy tricks and hopefuly not crash! :lol:

Electric is a really low maintenance option, just buy lots of expensive hi-capacity batteries so you can drive for at least an hour.

First off my screen is doing the Harlem shake again.

2nd I have a hpi savage 25
Hpi sprint2 with brushless motor
Been in the rc world for many years.
I got a 1:36 micro buggy, cats love it!

OP what else do you want out of the rc? Start with scales, 1:10 is pretty common, do you want electric? Nitro? gas?

Monster trucks are great for bashing and jumps
Truggies and buggies are great for track and race
You got cars that are designed for drift or speed

I would be prepared to spend 250 300 minimum for a good introduction rc, and I wouldn't buy used, these toys are notorious something breaking or needing replaced, you want your first experience being you having fun not swamped with repairs and how to fix ...

You can do like me and go out and get a bad ass hpi Nitro powered savage, I still have no regrets 10 years later. Or a safe bet would be the Emaxx from traxxas. It is a electric monster truck, the electric is nice because you can run it without the noise of a nitro engine, it's simple as charge and go.


I forgot to mention crawlers those things are cool.

Yeah my quad copter is really fun and challenging to pilot.  I'm thinking of getting one with a camera maybe after I get better a flying.  You can even get ones with stabilized high quality cameras.  You can hook the camera to a cellphone or tablet and use it to navigate even or you can take really cool aerial video and photography.  To me it's interesting trying to maneuver the thing precisely.  When I was younger you couldn't get an RC aircraft for so cheap with such good control and agility.

Rock crawlers are cool too I agree.  Had a friend who was into that, he used to go to get together where they'd drive them through a mini course over all k8nd of rocks and terrain.  Seemed fun.

The high quality ones are hundreds to thousands of dollars. Always start small and grow otherwise you would crash that big boy in 2 seconds. Hubsan x4 is a GREAT starter. It is cheap and reliable. Also, I am not into photography, I am into quad racing.

hook up to your camera or cellphone? Try hooking up to virtual reality goggles and flying that bad boy first person view. This is new frontier shit. It is probably one of the fastest growing hobbies right now.
